View Full Version : Why does only FileZilla transfer at normal speed?

Hi,

I've just switched from Windows last week, and now I'm trying to learn how to do every thing I used to do again. So far so good... until now. I have a remote seedbox, and used to use FileZilla to down/upload files to my PC via FTP back on W7, always at full speed. Now using OSX I wanted to move away from the "Windowsh" look of FZ, since the simplicity/beauty of OSX (and Mac apps overall) is one of its best part.

The first thing I tried was the "connect to server" (cmd+k) menu. It seamed like the perfect solution: built-in, FTPS support, minimalistic, unnobtrusive. Typed server, user/password, clicked coonect, and a new window opened with... nothing. Completely empty. No menus, no toolbar, no sidebar. AND NO FOLDERS/FILES. After maybe 1~2min it finally displays some scrollbars (window still blank tho), and only after moving them my folders showed up. Disconnected, tried again. Same thing. Had to manually "Show Toobar/Sidebar", and wait over a minute for the folders to show. Ok, I can live with this, I guess... Then tried dragging some files to desktop, download starts, but it's really slow and uneven, most of the time at like ~1/3 of my usual speed, sometimes just a couple B/s... :(

Ok, maybe I'll need an app for that. I dowloaded Transmit demo. Then ForkLift. Then Flow. All of them worked fine when browsing this time, but still get the same transfer speeds. Checked every pref, increased number of simultaneous downloads, rebooted. Nothing changes. I'm ready to blame Steve Jobs for this piece of crap that is OSX! Then downloaded Filezilla. And it works flawlessly out-of-the-box, exactly like on Windows.

So, what am I doing wrong? Is there anything else to try? (never liked cyberduck for whatever reason)

I don't need any advanced capabilities, I just want to be able to connect to one server, via FTPS, and download/upload some files from it every now and then. AT FULL SPEED! ;P I'd really like to stay with cmd+k (simple), Transmit (beautiful) or Flow (cheap) if possible.

What do you suggest?

Thanks and sorry for any english mistake!
