...as Daniel Craig (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0185819/)

Hmmm interesting choice. Great actor... loved him in Layer Cake and Our Friends in the North.

He gets my vote. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=118845&page=1&pp=25) Hopefully, he can bring a certain level of seriousness to the Bond role the past Bonds brought cheesiness.

Clive Owen would have made a far better Bond. ;)

Just heard this on the radio, damn you, you beat me to posting :p
I'm sure he'll be great. I liked him in Layer Cake too, I can't really picture him as the Bond that I currently know, but I'm sure that will all change when I actually see him in action.

Not my first choice, which would have been Jude Law followed by Ewan McGregor, but at least he's (relatively) young and British. And we know he can play both tough and display a certain dry humor... All in all not a bad choice, although I think the two mentioned above would have been bolder and better... :)

People will respond to Daniel Craig, because he is like an everyman. Guys fantasize about being Bond, and seeing a guy who isn't your traditional handsome leading man, will make Casino Royale a bigger, better than the films before it.
That's my prediction anyway. Mix the edginess of Layer Cake with the suspense of Bourne Identity, a little pop soda fuzz of The Italian Job and the high-octane of Heat, and we might just have a winner.

Oct 14, 2005, 11:06 AM
What has Ian Flamming and his interpretation of Bond got to do with the films ;)Well, Fleming did invent the character, with his books... ;)
And if you look at Sean Connery, (George Lazenby,) Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, they all got most of the characteristics they need, and played Bond more or less the way it should be. Just Roger Moore, even if he's hysterical in his very own way and was perfect as Simon Templar, didn't fit in as James Bond, at all... :)

THAT'S my point ;)Well, call me old fashioned, but I think that whenever you make a movie based on a book, then you should at least be true to the characters and the intention of the book, even if you may alter the story to fit into the movie story telling format, which is different from books. The worse example (except from Roger Moore, mentioned above :p) I can think of is I, Robot, with Will Smith, witch absolutely butchered Asimov's short stories from which the movie got it's title, robotic theme and characters names (and nothing, absolutely nothing, else).

Apparently his mum got overexcited and let the cat out of the bag yesterday For the lazy... Carol Craig told the Liverpool Daily Post that she was delighted with his appointment. “Obviously we are thrilled to bits,” she said. “It has come at a very good time in his career. He has worked extremely hard all his life and this would be his biggest populist role. It will be life-changing.”Can't really blame her, I'm guessing that if I ever have kids, and they get awarded such big roles, I'd be gosh darn excited! Major bragging rights. :p
I'm not familiar w/ Daniel Craig though... perhaps he does look better 'in action' vs the little picture in that article.

I'm really looking froward to a new direction for Bond. The last offering was a joke - two much "show" and not enough substance. It's time we had a bit more grit and intrigue. So a little Layer Cake influence wouldn't go amiss.

Ugly may be a bit strong. But that's the point: we should be going back to basics. Less flash, more reality. Sure, Bond is suave and sophisticated: but I want to see him get a broken nose, look a bit roughened up, like spies should be. And a lot less of the ridiculous gadgets (invisible cars... yeeeees.... )

i think it would be cool if he drove one of Fisker's new cars... fisker being the dude that designed the AMV8, the DB9, the Z8 (which bond also drove) amongst many other of the world's finest cars. He just started his own car company called Fisker Coachbuild, and believe me, his cars are bond worthy.

That said, I think Daniel Craig will be a great Bond. But for the love of all that is spy/Bond, dye his effin' hair black.
Put him in a tux, a quarter million dollar car, and we're off to a great start.
Martin Campell (http://imdb.com/name/nm0132709/) is directing, which is a move in the right direction I think. He directed GoldenEye, which was killer.
