My first was this:

.... just not the neat clear shell protecting it. http://n08q1114fvte161.imageshacknow.info/img/2460/v08w1128rhlb/smile.gif I wonder how many men gave themselves to the Apple II first. :apple::apple:

I honestly have no clue, maybe someone can help me out lol..

The first one we really had was one that my moms school (she is an elementary school teacher) take home for the summer. I was i think 7 or 8 and it was a all in one that was all grey. it looked like the old G3 imacs but i can really tell. BTW this woulda been about 12- 13 years ago.

A Macintosh Color Classic.

I won it in a competition open only to students at a university but I was a drop out at the time. I had to do some fast talking to land the prize.

I don't know much about apple except they can be expensive, but I always use PC and I'm sick of the problems with windows. Apple gives you more for the money, anyway before I could get my ibook up and running I bought my MacBook off eBay were my ibook came from. It should be in Wen-Thurs and I'll be back to post my experience with it.

Ibook G4 14". It was the 1.33Ghz version, 256mb RAM and a 80GB HD. It was my first laptop actually. Although I had to replace the harddrive after a year, from then on it was a workhorse for some 4.5 years.

In April 07 I was hooked on the iMac G3's and clamshells at school, and one day my freind said :"Gimme a Coke and you get a mac" Natrually I gave him the drink and he rode his bike home and gave me his latest find: a PowerBook 540c with a charger. It came from a junk pile on Garage Sale weekend. I loved that thing. It was mint with system 7.5.5 on it and word. I literally cried when my dad said I couldn't use it to surf (i wasn't a mac-freak,so I didn't realize it's age). I miss the happy mac at bootup, but my buddies and I had fun taking it apart.Fast forward to March 08, when I got my first mac that booted up in under 7mins.(Hell yeah I timed the 540c), a 17 inch iMac G5 (May 05,512,160)
I have a freind that had a Bondi iMac. We would go over her house and play Nanosaur on it until one day,he died. I took it apart and salvaged the apple bezels. They hang in my locker and give it a 1998 Apple theme. This past christmas i got a indigo iBook, exactly like the ones in my third grade class.
I have a freind with a couple G3 iMacs that may be cluttering my room soon!:apple:

Since 1984, we've probably bought a Mac every 18months to two years, whether for us of to use in museums we designed. (http://www.optimumdesign.co.uk)

Gotohamish, the link you provided is just a domain squatter, but I'm interested to see the museums you have designed.

iBook G4 12 inch. I thought my iBook had done me 3 years of justice, but having read that some people are still using theirs from the '80s makes me feel quite feeble!

a 500mhz G3 Ibook laptop. It was a second hand computer that was the result of a trade for another dell laptop of similar specifications. The crazy thing is that the ibook still works perfectly fine (aside from needing a new battery) (but i'm sure the dell died years ago)

A lime green iMac DV with a 400MHz G3, it was probably one of the coolest computers ever :D

Got it from the school where my uncle works. They were replacing their Macs with a Windows 2000 network () so he gave me one of the Macs since it would just end up in landfill otherwise

First Mac I owned was/is my Powerbook G4 1.67 HiRes.

But I'm 28. When I was growing up, my dad bought a Mac SE/30 when he was working on a PhD. That was the first Mac for me. Progressed to a Performa 550 (really a pretty bad machine, lol) and then a UMAX SuperMac clone (233Mhz 603e). Then I switched to the dark side and bought a P2 300 for college, in 1998.

My first Mac was and is an iBook G4 1.33ghz, the last one they made in I believe mid/late 2003. It's a wonderful little machine that still gets compliments on his sort of compact size.

I since realized my love of 2003/2004 Apple. I bought a 1.25ghz iMac G4 that runs just as nicely with Leopard as my iBook with Tiger. There's just something about their classic clean white designs I can't pass up.

I'm very happy with my Macs, and I can say the only Windows machine I'll want to own from now on is via Bootcamp.

oh i hope you get one soon :), i paid 50% of my MBP price other 50% came from my parents and yes those machines are so beautiful (everyone in school admire it) but also beast from inside. i get shocked when i see people still using old laptops (i see this only in macs) that show the quality of apple's product but here (in dubai) people through that laptop after 1 year or less (come easy go easy).

again hope you get a good new MBP

Dad purchased in 1981 Apple ][+ 48kb RAM with dual 5.25" Floppy drives, 80 character card, and 16kb RAM upgrade (by Microsoft!!!).

In 1993 he purchased a PowerBook 165c to replace the Apple ][ (yes, was still using it until then!), and that is where I fell in love in Macs.

Then in 1994 I saw a PowerBook 520, and knew that is the Mac for me!

Even though I was in University, I pooled all my money to buy a
PowerBook 520c with 8MB RAM upgrade and larger 320MB hard drive and 14,400 Kbps modem.

Best damm investment of $3000 I ever made...

Until I purchased a PowerBook G3 Pismo 500Mhz :D

A Power Mac 6500/225 with 64MB of RAM and a 2.0GB hard drive. Those were the days... NOT! I bought that as my first Mac and was so disappointed that I almost never bought another. Then I realized (opened my eyes) that I had bought an ANCIENT machine, so I then invested in a Power Mac G3 B&W 300MHz... and LOVED it. Since then its been a dual G4, an iMac G4, a Core Solo Mini, and now a white Macbook and a C2D white iMac. :D

First "Mac" was actually a Power Computing PowerCurve P.O.S. that gave me a bad idea of what Macs were about.

The first one that impressed me was a used SE/30.

The first one that had OS X on it was a 12" iBook G3/366 MHz (clamshell) I bought used on eBay for about $100... And then after that, I went through:

Mac Classic14" iBook G4 1.2 GHz
20" iMac G4 1.25 GHz (lamp-neck)
17" Aluminum Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz
15" Aluminum Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz
Mac mini 1.66 GHz Core Duo (Superdrive)
PowerBook G3 (Lombard)
Newton e-Mate (does that count?)
12" iBook G4/800 MHz (Combo drive)
13" MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz (white)
24" iMac Core 2 Duo (aluminum)
13.3" MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz (white)
13.3" MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz (aluminum unibody / GeForce 9400M)

And it's been fun.

My current MBP is the first Apple I've had.

Bought it at the campus bookstore when the new MBPs were coming out and Stanford was trying to bleed out the older MBPs.

It was some insane deal for something like a free ipod touch, free printer, and what equated to be almost 35% off the list price. Campus bookstore also had a discounted 2-year Apple Care so I jumped on that too.

My First Mac was a Mac II

I didn't really have a computer growing up till I could get one myself as my family was on welfare. I was 17 and I purchased my Mac with my Tax returns from my first real job (Friendly's). I could only afford the CPU (used, from the classifieds), and over the summer I purchased other parts for it, monitor, graphics card (8-bit, 256 colors, wow), keyboard and mouse (a Three Button mouse).

The CPU came with 8MB of RAM and a 105MB Hard Drive with System 7 installed. It was a similar to a machine a friend had at the time which I loved playing on when ever I went over to his place. Before I got the monitor I used to tun it on just to hear the Bong. I used to play Strategic Conquest and Warlords on it. Eventually I got a processor upgrade card for it, a 32MHz 68030 chip, woohoo.

Good times.

Other notable Macs:
Performa 630CD (First Brand New computer from Computer City)
Motorola Starmax 3000 (200 Mhz, first PowerPC for me, First Refurb)
Power Mac G3 (Beige, Desktop) (Used from computer store, I upgraded it several times)
Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver 2002) (Refurb from PowerMax.com, traded in G3 with them to get an iPod (1st Gen, 5GB))
20" Aluminum iMac (Refurb from Apple.com) (Current Machine)

I actually own a few others that I got from various dealings but never used as my personal computer

The Mac II:

I was a late starter to Apple. I got a iMac G4 for a while then sold it as either i was doing something wrong or else its different now as more programs & websites are mac compatible. I did love it in every other way tho. Then i got my iMac Tiger(white) 10.4 and my Apple obsession started there, I got an iPhone 2G then Hubby got a Macbook Air & then i got myself a Macbook aluminium & i have got the latest iphones every year, we no longer have a pc desktop or laptop in this house & we certainly dont miss it. My next goal is to get a new iMac but im hoping there will be a new design later this year, i hope it comes before my imac dies!!!

Seconded. Although I didn't acquire it that long ago (three years).

It came with OS X 10.2, which I updated to 10.3, and used until I got my MBP and iMac last week.

Now, since I used to use Performas back in school, I use it as a dedicated classic machine, runs OS 9 worlds better than it runs OS X.

Oh I know that the G5 has a hell of a lifespan left on it. I was talking about your 8600 which you seemed to juice pretty well. What ended up happening to it?

Well, I still have my 8600...I should have offered to sell it to you back in 2007! :D Its available to a good home for anyone who wants it. I picked up a G4 cube two months ago as part of my project to "miniaturize" a classic old system...haven't gotten it fully sorted out yet, so the 8600 is still around.

In the meantime, the G5 PowerMac got another HD upgrade, so it now got just under 3TB of storage in it internally, plus a FW800 2x250GB RAID 1 and a 750GB Time Machine external....soon to be replaced/augmented with a 1TB NAS.

I bought a 12" PB off of craigslist a little over a year ago - just to see if I could get used to macs. Haven't looked back since.

12" Powerbook G4, revision D with 1.5GHz CPU and upped the memory to 1.25 Gigs, and replaced the 0 gig 5400 rpm drive with a 100 gig 7200 RPM drive.

Sign up another 12" PB user here. Just had it to an anniversary event and was educating a curious person with iPhoto ... they were sufficiently impressed and I neglected to mention that its a 4 year old machine, which is "old" by PC standards.

512K Fat Mac, purchased in 1985. I used PageMaker on this to produce help documents for new computer users. Two floppy system then later upgraded to a 20mb hard drive.

I wish I still had it. I sold it to buy my Mac IIci. Then sold that to get my Umax c500e (which I still have today)

I would like to know after buying your first Apple computer how much money we have spent to keep up with the ever development Apple throws at us to part with cash?

I know that school... I grew up in Dayton!

About your Dad, do you think he'll ever switch back?

lol sorry to not got back after so long, lol
Idk about him switching, I almost have him convinced to get an air, but who knows, he still is working off a pentium 4 emachine with a whopping 256 mb of ram and 60 gb hard drive ;)
I'm trying lol

Apple I! Nah, just kidding. ;) Although sure wish I had one back then -- and today!

First Apple computer that I paid for with my own hard-earned bread:

1993: Macintosh Centris 650 with a 68040@25 MHz, 8 MB of RAM (later expanded to 16 MB), 1 MB of VRAM, a super-speedy 2x CDROM drive (caddy loading), Quantum LP240S SCSI HD, AAUI 10baseT Ethernet. Dream machine and used it until it was literally in pieces. :D Served me extremely well for five years of heavy use.

First Apple computer I used would be an Apple II (original) in 1980.

First Mac computer I used would be the venerable Macintosh SE in 1987.

My first Mac (mine) was a Macintosh Quadra 605. 25 Mhz / 8 Mb Ram.

The first Mac I ever worked was the Macintosh IIci 25 Mhz fpu / 8 Mb. Ram, but using a Truevision Video Card for Videoproduction using Macromind Director 2.0 (in 1992).

The oldest Mac I ever use is in my office: A Macintosh Classic II. Still works!!!
We keep it as a Museum Piece.

First mac I used was an SE/30 (cost £1300 through Cambs Uni back in the 80's). First mac I brought was an Performa 400 for Uni. Upgrading the CPU to a 33mHz 68040 with FPU, 10 megs ram (rather rare) and scavenged a couple of SCSI HDs for an external enclosure I'd built. Hacked a Sony 15 inch trinitron PC monitor (changed the svga plug to mac) to get me something better that the ole Apple Performa display I had. Lasted me 4 years...

Mine was Power Book 150, monochrome, trackball, slow has hell, with modem. I bought it in summer 1995. And I've been using in for, probably, a couple of years.
That has been my only mac until last year.

My first mac was a Macintosh SE. I bought it off my uni's computer center when they were upgrading and selling off the older mac. Had many fond memories with it. Wish I hadn't sold it off. Would love to do a mac mini transplant with the SE housing.

My family had an Apple LC III, which was a dinosaur when we had it, followed by a Power Mac 6100 which I loved to death.

The first Apple computer I actually owned myself was a Powerbook 5300cs:

Macintosh LC II
12" RGB Monitor
Imagewriter II printer

16MHz 68030, 4MB RAM, 40MB HD, System 7

This was my first Mac. I was 10 years old and in the 4th grade, the year was 1992 when my dad bought me a computer for school. Little did I know it was going to open one of the greatest passions of my life and start a MacAddiction that would never quit!

But MY first mac was.... Powermac 6100! Pizzabox! I remember my PC friend hitting the power button which for some reason was placed right next to the floppy disk slot, thinking he was ejecting the floppy. Well yeah, bad design there.

But I got SO MUCH done on that machine.

Then I moved onto the Power Computing Power Tower Pro. Half price when Apple revoked the whole licensing thing. Upgraded too. I really think of this as my Mac.

Got even more done on that machine, it was near infinitely upgradable. I pushed it to its limits. I'm trying to think of the app I used, it was a "dock" before there was a dock. Tons of tiny application icons at the bottom of the screen that would pop up when I went to the bottom.

Sorry, went a little off there...

I did not join the game until July of this year. Entry level 20" iMac has my head spinning. Wished I had kept with the motion that was started when I first used Macs in my 7th grade computer class in '92. I don't know the model but it was probably a 10" black and white screen with the 5 1/4" floppy drive. Those were awesome!:apple:

I can't remember if I answered this before, so I'll do it again.

1. First Mac was a PowerPC 6100. (Got it used off of eBay, around the year 2000.)
2. 266 MHz G3 iMac, aqua.
3. 500 MHz G3 iMac. (2001 model)
4. 533 MHz Digital Audio G4 PowerMac.
5. 1.25 GHz G4 Mac Mini.
6. 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo Mini.
7. 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mini. (2007)
8. 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mini. (2009—got it for more RAM capacity and better graphics.)

In addition, I've picked up other Macs along the way as "supplementals." 450 MHz G4 PowerMac. (Two of them, at different times, actually. A Yikes and a Sawtooth.) 867 MHz Quicksilver G4 PowerMac. An old pre-G3 Powerbook. (Not sure which model exactly.) I plan on getting a dual 1.25 GHz MDD PowerMac in the next year.
