Hi,

I found a used 2009 MBA for 600 USD. I'm looking for a MBA and I can't pay more than, say, 650 USD.

Is the 2009 model too slow for now, with Mountain Lion and stuff?

It's for school, Word and stuff.

Not worth more than usd$350 to me. U can get a brand new ASUS Ultrabook latest I5 processor from Costco $600.

As a reference price point, I picked up a few weeks ago an original macbook air(2008) 13" for $400, and my girlfriend picked up a used 11.6" macbook air current gen for $600 last november. Based on this info I think that $600 for 2009 MBA is a little overpriced. I would suggest to wait it out till you can get a better deal (I am sure you will, just check craigslist frequently).

The downside to buying a used MBA is the cost of fixing it in case it breaks down.....then you will really regret buying one.

No!
as in 'yes' it will be too slow (4 years old) and
'no' don't buy it at any price - or maybe $100 for the novelty

OK, eventually I ordered a used ("As New") ASUS Zenbook UX31e-DH52.
Bought it from an Amazon seller for 530 USD, new is 850 USD and the seller says it has no external or internal damage.
It's i5, 4GB, 1600x900 and stuff...

I really wanted a MBA but the prices are crazy. Craigslist isn't an option because I need shipping since I'm not from the US.

Thanks for the help, people.

The Zenbooks are worthy alternative to the MBA, it was crazy expensive (more than the MBA!) six month ago.

I cancelled the order of the Zenbook. Most reviewers and users agree that the keyboard is terrible.

Looking for a MBA in the 600 dollar range, if someone's selling...

Forgot to tell ya, anytime you buy a used laptop, you want the seller to spell out how many charge cycle is on the battery otherwise you are looking at a surprise expenditure when u get it.

There was a post here not too long ago, base MBA 11" 2011 for like $699.

I got my refurb 2011 11" from Apple $829 back in 8/12.

If u want a MBA, gotta dig deeper into the piggy bank. :(

Yup, MBA's trackpad spoils u.

I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad U310.

"Ultrabook", though looks more like a MBP than a MBA, 13.3" screen, i5 3rd gen, 4GB RAM, and 500 GB HDD with 32GB SSD.
All that, used, for 470 USD (expedited shipping included).
After purchasing it, I figured, since it looks very much like a MBP on the inside, would be awesome if it ran OSX. So I Googled "U310 hackintosh" and apparently it's do-able, all its insides are used by real MacBooks so it works pretty well, so I'll certainly try it.
Also, it's got the best keyboard on an Ultrabook, trackpad too (MBA isn't an Ultrabook because it's not a PC, obviously the Macs have the best trackpads.

I'll be interested in your experiences...my experience has been that every PC laptop keyboard and mouse are complete crap, *except* Lenovo's.

I have a 2009 MBA, and thought I would look for a cheap back up '09 MBA, really to just run Win XP on.

Sadly, as you have found, the prices people want are way too high, still. Maybe when the 2013 model's roll out with the Haswell processors...

...Then the MBA 09' would become even more obsolete, so a slight price cut won't, err, cut it.

If I get the hackintosh thing to run, I guess I won't have trackpad gestured, which are very useful in OSX.

You should try eBay actually (yeah I know). I've bought several Macs on eBay and have had great experiences and usually prices are pretty good if you know how to find them.

I think the 2010 is the earliest Air you should look at, particularly one that has 4GB of RAM. It'll be cheap because it has a Core2Duo processor, but that'll be fine for your average use of Mountain Lion, web browsing, video watching, word processing. I have one still going strong. Lovely machine.

I got my 2011 base 11" air for 700 new.

So did I, great value, with warranty too, but they are gone, for 600 you can get a 2011 air, older macbook pro, but a 2009 air for that ...way too high:eek:
