16 bit windows app on a Mac

I have a MBP bought 2012, and I love it, but. I have a legacy windows program that I really need to keep running. It will run on Windows 7, but not 8. Someone said it was a 64 bit problem. Can I install bootCamp and a 32 bit Windows so I can continue to use this ancient program?

The old program is an ancient, general ledger/accounting program that my boss insists we use. The company that made the program has gone out of business, so no new updates.

Please don't bother to say the obvious, that we need a new accounting program. I know that.

Personally, for something like that I wouldn't bother with Bootcamp at all
I would run Windows 7 under Fusion or Parallels (Fusion is my choice)
That way you wouldn't need to reboot to use it

You definitely need a 32 (or 16!) bit version of Windows to run a 16-bit app; you can't run 16-bit apps on 64-bit Windows. For something that old you could probably make do with XP or even 2000 if you have a CD hanging around. A free VM system like VirtualBox will likely give acceptable performance given the age of the app.
