Hello,

I have been asked to update a friend's MacBook Air from OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.8. As far as I know such an update is directly possible, without having to update to OS X 10.7 first.

I have OS X 10.8 on a bootable/installable USB stick and would like to spare me the download.

How do I do this best? Can I just buy the update through the App Store but never download it and use the USB stick instead, or will my friend in such a case always be reminded that he bought something that he never downloaded?

Greetings - desertman

You can got straight from 10.6 to 10.8.

Just have him make the app store purchase then stop the DL as soon as it begins. Then use your USB key to update him. That will work fine.

If he ever needs to reinstall he will be prompted for an AppleID, and he can just enter his own that he used for the purchase and it will work.

Weasel, you are always so helpful.

Come to my house and show Mrs. Krazy Bill how to work the stove please. :(

Worked great and painlessly. Thanks.

Now everything is fine - except for Notes not syncing between Mac and iPhone (and this was the main reason for updating to OS X 10.8.

I started a new thread for this: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=16968562#post16968562
