I can't find a setting to disable WINS in Network settings. I also can't find an obvious widget for turning off netbios support, although it's easy enough to modify com.apple.netbiosd.plist.

Background: Firewall or no, I don't want to be running a service I am pretty sure I have absolutely no legitimate use for. I don't want netbiosd to even start up, even if in theory as long as there's no bugs it won't do anything dangerous.

So far as I know, no functionality I care about is in any way contingent on WINS or netbios. I don't do SMB file sharing, etcetera. But I can't find anything for disabling WINS. It seems like "turn off stuff I'm not using" shouldn't be hard...

Where is com.apple.netbiosd.plist located, if it is in /Library/LaunchAgents or /Library/LaunchDeamons you can disable by entering (Paste) the following text in Terminal:

sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

OR

sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDeamons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

****Dependable on where the file is located.

Yes, it's in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons. I'm just wondering whether there's any UI-based way to just turn off all of this stuff. I am not a big fan of running services I'm not using.
