Turn off Sound Check, use equalizer settings, or download firmware hacks that uncap a limit Apple imposed.

Why would Apple impose a limit?
I've found that with my Bose QuietComfort2 headphones that the volume is only acceptable. If I really wanted it cranked up, I have to do it externally.

Use Apple Earbuds, they are the loudest earphones I know of.

This (http://gopod.free-go.net/) is what I'd recommend. It's called Go-Pod. It's a firmware hack.

Good luck!

Why would Apple impose a limit?...
I believe there is a guideline for safety sound level. Excessive exposure to high sound level using in-ear speakers is responsible for much of hearing loss today.
