Changed RAM have wire I can't hook up?

I have a late 2009 Mini that I am changing ram in. When I boot all I get is a file folder. I put old ram back in and get the same thing. In looking at everything I found a wire that is taped to the bottom of the hard drive, connected to the board at the front of the hd but not connected to anything on the other end.

Could this be the problem and does anyone know where it goes?

It sounds like you knocked the drive cable off the logic board. Look at step 12 in this teardown. Maybe that can help you figure out where to plug it back in.

That is the wire, it came off of the end away from the logic board and I cannot see where to plug it back in. It looks like it has to go to the HD.

Yes thats it so I am assuming that is not my problem. Now what am I getting the file folder when I try to boot up. I put the old ram back in and I am still getting it.

I get the boot sound and the monitor changes to the pale color but instead of getting the cog wheel I get a file folder. Did I screw up the hard drive some how?

They look good on that end. Would they stop the system from booting?

so you have the same loose end as the photo I posted ?

that loose end goes on the edge of the hdd it measures the temp of the hdd.

it is not the cause of your{ hdd ? folder} screen.

the cause of the folder ?

is a disconnection of the hdd . the hdd connects to a bridge card one part of the card is to the dvd the other part is to the hdd. I will find a photo.

the right hand pointer finger is on the part of the sata bridge that plugs into the mobo. he should not have his finger on those contacts. i think this is not sitting in your mobo causes the lack of an hdd. BTW just above his black pry tool is the edge of the hdd where you stick the end of that wire. one more link in a minute.

this bridges the hdd and the dvd to the mobo.. I think you did not set it in the mobo correctly.

Thanks, I may not have seated it properly when I installed the new ram. Will check it out tonight.
