"By Christmas, he predicts, the ability to download pornography "will be one of the main attractions for getting a video iPod".... "

Well, you'd be an idiot to buy it for the music playing qualities..I'm sure by christmas we'll all be riding along on the bus/train watching our 60GB of porn..

""A lot of adults are not going to be aware what these iPods can be used for when they buy them for their children," says Mr. Milburn, who owns four iPods himself"

Thankfully those children don't have access to computers, just think of the potential filth available to them..

You could have said the same thing about the iPod photo but nobody really put porn on it. Boys will be boys, and boys like naked ladies. :)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I always like to view porn in public. That's why the video iPod is so great. Now I can watch in the subway, in the grocery store, while out for a jog. The possibilities are endless.

Seriously, these people are idiots. You can already put porn, or any other files, on your iPod. You just can't watch it on the device. It requires getting the porn in the first place. So if a kid can already do that, there are bigger problems than little Johnnie figuring out how to transfer it to his iPod.

In the worst case scenario, the whole video thing is a bust. So what? the new iPods still play music, JUST AS THEY DID BEFORE!!!! Why do people complain about the same device in a thinner case, with greater capacity and more capability, for the same price? If you don't want to spend the money or the time downloading "Lost," then don't do it. You can still rock out to whatever music you like.

Lastly, methinks that the all the nay-saying bodes well for sales of the new iPod. Just look at how many idiots have lined up in the past to bash every new iteration of them.

People are fogetting...

They say that the new iPod will fail on the mere detail that it isn't a good video player. However it is NOT a video player, it is an MP3 player with other capabilities.

the iPod video compared to the previous generation is
A) cheaper for the size
B) better screen
C) thinner
D) has other capabilities the previous genreation did not have
E) better battery life
F) loses nothing compared to the previous rev

There for my logic tells me that it is no more doomed to fail than the previous generation was, and I would argue that is is less likely to fail because it is an all around improved MP3 player.

My take,

I hear there are really cheap devices called "printers" that make portable images. Run and hide! Porn is here! :D

But let me defend the Christian Science Monitor (which is actually a good news source, without a conservative bias). The mention of porn was just at the very end, and was NOT slanting it as a bad thing. It merely was quoting someone saying porn on iPods will be big--not passing judgment on that assertion. And the quote is from someone who works for a porn-filtering company. HE says it will be big. (Kind of like Symantec saying Mac viruses will be big.)

That better be some damn good porn to make it worth the 10 hours to encode a full two hour movie.

What am I saying of course it is!

Yeah... lost the plot at the end, hehe, just a Bit! :) heh but I guess that was the only semi-original part of the whole article. Is "Christian Monitor" a spoof site? Do they really take themselves serliously? Scary, hehe. Oh yeah... and I can't wait for Christian Evangelist video podcasts.

The Christian Science Monitor is a VERY well-known and long-respected publication of general news--with no Christian Scientist slant. Just good reporting. Ever heard "Monitor Radio News" on NPR? Same people.

I say this just to set the record straight. I'm not a religious person, but the CS Monitor, despite the name is serious, responsible news coverage.

I believe there's some religious reason WHY the Church of Christ Scientist supports news without a religious agenda, but it escapes my memory.

Did he really say that it would take 30 minutes to transfer an hour-long (make that 35-40 minutes without the commercials) television show from the a computer to the iPod? I can fill my iPod mini up from scratch in less than 5 minutes, and it holds 4 gigs, much more than the size of Desperate Housewives or Lost from iTMS. I wonder where this statement came from.

Obviously this guy has dial-up. I get 700-900KB/second continuous download throughput on my cable modem. 30 minutes' transfer at 700KB/second is 2.5GB of data. That equates (roughly) to 840 minutes of very high quality H.264 video for the iPod. That's like 6 full-length Hollywood movies.

Yes there will be people putting pr0n on their iPod. Big deal. Where is the equal time for putting pr0n on the PSP, my Sony Ericsson video capable cell phone, etc., etc., etc.?
