Dropbox buys Mailbox for (reportedly) $100 million

Forgive my ignorance, but how is something like Mailbox, a fairly new app that is free, worth that much, if it brings in no (as far as I know) revenue?

I know I'm clueless to this, but would like to know 🙂

I read a few articles stating that Dropbox bought Mailbox but none of them disclosed for how much. What source did you get $100 million from?
