Maybe I'm missing something, but is this just a cosmetic update? The description and specs appear to be unchanged.

As far as I can tell, it's merely a cosmetic update - and honestly, a long overdue one.

the powerbook (the last revision) has audio in/out, right?

why would a powerbook user need this?

People who bought older ones still might want to record something. Some Macs have horrendous noise problems even when they do have the ports, so people with that problem can benefit from doing to a dongle.

Also, the Powerbook on provides line-level input, not mic-level input.

If you want to use an analog headset for iChat or Skype, you need something to pull that mic up to line level. The iMac works nicely.
