Is there really a huge difference in terms of visual quality between these two monitors>?

That's debatable. My dad just bought a 12" iBook and the screen is a piece of crap. Low brightness, pinkish hue, dark spots. Or maybe he just got a dud.

It's probably a good rule that larger LCD panel = greater brightness.

While you may have valid points, both the PB 12" and both iBooks have 1024x768 displays, thus, all of them have the same resolution, or 0% difference ;) .

er...didn't the OP ask about the 14" ibook and the 12" POWERBOOK? i'm thinking there's a world of difference with the increase in resolution. but then again, the 12" didn't get the res bump did it?

some of the experts will surely chime in though.

seeing as the 14" iBook has the exact same resolution as the 12" powerbook there is no world of difference with zero increase in resolution

The original poster said nothing about screen resolution. He/She was interested in screen quality, which can vary for many different reasons which have nothing to do with resolution.

Title says "resolution"

To me, the screens look the same though.. Granted I've only seen them in-store, my untrained eyes can't really tell the diff.

The resolution of the 12",14" ibooks and the 12" ibooks are the same.
Some people say the 12" screen looks more crisper because the pixels are smaller and some say the 12" screen is too small to read.
The best way to see the diffrence is to compare the screens side by side at an apple store, its all a matter of opinion.

okay so no the res is the same. though some folks see a world of difference between the screens anyhow. what's bugging me is that folks are still talking about the 12" ibook when that's not what the OP even asked about.

initially i thought that the 12" pbook got a res bump, but i see it did not (and i included that in my post).

oh and i don't see any problems with the 12" ibook's screen, even though that's not what we're even talking about ;)
