hello,

my Girlfriend has an 700 mhz ibook (with the 16 meg video) and we have put two 128 chips in it, so it's at 256,

I have the new 800 mhz with 384 total memory,

A) looking on http://www.crucial.com they do not list the 800 mhz model, is this oversite or something that I don't know about memory configurations

b) if i was to buy a 512 chip and drop it in, any problems with switching my GF's chip for my newer 256,

i know kind of a dumb question but the memory specs didn't change with the upgrade did they?

anything besides the 512 is PC100, and the 512 is PC133,

im confused, but with crucial ill save like sixty bucks off of the 512,
plus i NEED more memory,

No problems at all

All of those ram chips work together fine. PC100 and 133 will both work in the iBook because it's bus speed is 100Mhz and PC133 is backwards compatible with any speed < or = 133MHz, which includes the 100Mhz that the ibooks run at. Just make sure when you buy the 512MB chip that it's not a full heigh SO-DIMM. Selecting a chip specifically compatible with the iBook from crucials website will make sure of this. selecting a generic laptop stick of ram will NOT guarantee this.

To repeat myself:

You can buy a stick of 512 for the iBook from crucials website. Take out the 256 stick in yours, take out the 128 chip in your girlfriends iBook, put the 256 stick in your girlfriends, take her 128s tick and ebay it or whatever you want, and put the 512 in yours when it gets there. No problems.

BTW

Oh yeah, i went to crucial.com and saw the 800mhz ibook listed. select it from the left side pull down menu, not the "most popular" links on the right side.

Check Otherworld Computing http://www.macsales.com . That 512 MB (low profile) for the iBook is only about 79.00. Look under "This week's specials". That's a big change. I've ordered from them a lot and never had any problems.

Gus
