Back around 1979-80, the NBC network was a perennial cellar-dweller in the ratings. Terrible, terrible shows: Pink Lady and Jeff, Supertrain, The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo...it was almost a parody of a network.
To try to boost themselves a bit, NBC came out with a new promo jingle. It's tagline was "NBC...proud as a peacock!"
Well, the campaign came under considerable derision considering how bad some of their shows actually were (with accompanying low ratings). Which is too bad, because the jingle is actually quite catchy, one of those that sticks in your head. This (http://www.tvparty.com/vault4/nbc80satnite.ram) is a few seconds of the original song.
Anyway...I never knew this until recently, but apparently NBC's promotions department, having cajones not normally associated with network staff, produced a parody version of the complete, one-minute jingle. If you are old enough to be familiar with the original, the parody is hilarious. It's brutal. It even picks on then-NBC Vice President of Programming Fred Silverman, the man who scheduled many of those terrible TV series.
So, for what it's worth, here's (http://www.tvparty.com/vault4/Loud3.ram) the parody version. (RealPlayer 10 required; no whining, please!)
