The issue was resolved. It seems like the package was either lost in the mail or taken from my building. I want to apologize to Rod Rod for starting this thread, and let it be known that he came through on his part of the deal. Thank you Rod for coming back and clearing everything up. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with you again, except maybe next time we go with UPS. =)

This thred should be in the buying tips but thanks for the Warning
I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I was involved in a trade with Rod Rod, my iSight for his Airport Express. Bottom line is he received my iSight Oct. 5 and has failed to deliver on his part, I have yet to receive the Airport or a reply to my private messages and emails. I tried to hold out as long as I could before writing this thread thinking there would be some reasonable explanation, but there is no excuse. Rod Rod continues to log on to macrumors and post, yet does not reply to messages. I just wanted to warn the members macrumors to be careful when dealing with Rod Rod. Dan

Thanks for the advice Reberto. I just assumed this would be the best place to post the thread. If he decides to do another trade the Marketplace is the place he would do it. If a mod feels the need to move it, so be it.

It was never resolved. It looks like RodRod stopped logging on to MacRumors as of 10/20/05. Oh well what can you do, be more careful next time I suppose.:)

Dang, that sucks... I've dealt with him before and he came through fine then (I sold him a Mac mini 256 MB RAM stick for $25 back in January/February). Sorry to hear this happened.
EDIT: Guess I should note... in our transaction, I had his check in hand BEFORE I sent him his merchandise. But he still seemed very honest... he even posted a kudos for me here.

He mentioned a few MacRumor names as references. I guess it was a different situation being a seller(Bob_Barker, clayj). Being the seller you wait for payment then ship the item, when trading it's just a matter of trust. After you ship your item out, the most you can do is cross your fingers and hope the other person your dealing with is on point and honest. Thanks for the condolences guy!

Man, that stinks. I read many good things about him, and I would have been one to do a trade with him as well. It seems a "waste" for someone to post thousands of times on a forum, and then do a scam to get what, $100?
This may be a long shot, and a VERY dirty plan, but maybe he figured he was done posting on MR, so he was going to do a scam before he leaves. :(
Dan-o-mac, if you know his address, send him a letter. I don't know how old he is, but maybe his wife or parent or someone will read it. :)

I saw his post count also and I didn't get it either, why would an active member just stop posting for an iSight, Powerbook maybe(not that I would wish that on anyone). You could be right maybe he decided to cashout, but like I said before why do it for an iSight, it makes no sense. I think I will take your suggestion and write a letter or two. Thanks for the Idea ITASOR.

When you send a letter don't put his name on the address (on the envelope) so that someone else in the house will open it rather than him.
Put a return address of a friend or someone else's house. If I still had my P.O. Box, I'd let you use that. Maybe someone else has an address they can let you use.
Put:
Current Resident
His address
his address

murad2: thanks
8:10 PM
Andrew Holst: no problem!
murad2: this is just too bad that he'd continue this stuff after oct 24. before that (like the date of his original post), I can understand.. but after oct 24, it's just sort of surprising
murad2: no wonder he said "I haven't decided if I want to go that route" with respect to the mail fraud idea maya had
Andrew Holst: yeah.He should have delt with you first before going on MR and addressing this issue
murad2: to be fair, I think he'd say that he tried that
murad2: but this business of posting after oct 24 that he still hadn't received it, or at least letting on that he hadn't, well that part is just odd
8:15 PM
Andrew Holst: yeah. You still should come back on MR and PM him.
murad2: ok will do
Andrew Holst: cya
murad2: thanks, later
In all fairness, I am neutral on this.

Rod Rod has a few inconsistencies with his IM log there.
At the beginning he says:
Andrew Holst: everyone on macrumors is mad at you
murad2: yeah it sucks
murad2: I sent that dude his thing
Then, near the middle of the thread he says he hasn't logged onto MacRumors in awhile.
If he hasn't logged onto MacRumors in awhile, how does he know that everyone at MR is mad at him and that the IM from Andrew is about him sending "that dude his thing". If he hadn't logged onto MR in awhile, he wouldn't know why everyone is mad at him.
In addition, if you had mailed the thing, why wouldn't you respond to IMs and emails (you don't have to log onto MR for that).

No, it's an issue with not replying to communication.
How it should have gone - this is like, a 2 minutes-to-resolution thing:
1) Hey, I haven't received the item! I expected it by now.
2) I sent it Registered Mail on XX date with number YY
1) OK I'll check with USPS -- they say it was delivered!
2) Yeah that's what they tell me
1) It never was
2) OK I'll start a shipping insurance claim with USPS 'coz I insured it and requested registered with signature like we agreed
1) Thanks buddy
2) No problem
and possibly
1) I checked with the other residents here and one of them signed for it and forgot to give it to me (the @$$) no problems.
or
2) USPS sent me a copy of the signature they got on delivery -- here's a copy for you -- I'm sorry but it looks like the problem was after it was delivered - sorry I can't help any further
or
2) USPS admitted their loss and will pay out the claim in 30 days and I'll send it to you.

Well here's an update on the whole situation. I would like to let it be know that Rod Rod did send the package Oct. 21 and it was delivered Oct. 24. The problem is I did not receive the package. Someone from my building might have taken the package or the post office delivered to the wrong address. This thread could have all been easily avoided with a few PM's from Rod Rod, but I'm glad he was a stand up guy and sent the package as promised. Now a few questions, where do I go from here? Has anyone had this happen, what should be my next step, do I go to the local post office with the delivery number? I also want to thank all who have helped in this situation, I'm glad to be a part of MacRumors. Dan

Nov 9, 2005, 12:48 PM
You can go to the post office with the number they should be able to tell you who signed for the package. If there was no signature involved, see where it was delivered if that's possible. As far as I know, if it was deliverede to the wrong address, the post office is responsible. If it was signed for by the wrong person, the person who signed for it has now committed fraud and you can now go to the police. It might not be a bad idea to contact the sender to see if you can get the serial number and file a description with serial number to the police.

The recipient should check with their local PO to see if it can be tracked down loacally. If there is an insurance claim, however, it must be initiated by the sender, and it is the sender who would get paid the claim if approved.
