Walmart is offering 16GB Wi-Fi iPad Mini models for $299 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-iPad-mini-16GB-with-Wi-Fi-White/22081453) across the U.S. (via DealNews (http://dealnews.com/Apple-iPad-mini-16-GB-Wi-Fi-Tablet-for-299-at-Walmart-stores/686680.html))

This is the lowest price seen for a brand new iPad Mini and is the same price Apple asks for the refurbished unit (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/ipad_mini). It requires in-store pickup, but customers can reserve one (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-iPad-mini-16GB-with-Wi-Fi-White/22081453) from the website and pick it up in-store.

So does Microcenter (At least the one here in Houston).

Are they trying to clear the inventory? Does this mean the iPad Mini is on the cusp of an upgrade in the coming weeks? I don't care about the retina display as much as more storage and faster processor (for same price schedule as the old one...or maybe even a lower price???).

Okay, now I need a drooling emoticon.....Yes, I know. I have a disease. I think it's called "iOS-aholism."

Don't jump the ship guys. Just wait for the retina. This is not that much of a price drop.

This is what the original price should have been. $299 just feels psychologically a lot better than $329.

$300 for a retina version and I'm in.

"In stores only" Yeah you can go ahead and get large bag of chips and a 12 pack of cokes while you're at it.

If you don't go by that link, you'll see what I'm saying. Search iPad mini on the Walmart website and the $299 models that show up are refurbs, and that one is $329. It's oly when you click the $329 model that it shows up as priced $299 like in the link you provided. I guess the search engine is just not updated, but it is true, they are $299. Quite the deal.

Getting rid of old stock for the new 7" $150-$200 tablets.
Sounds like a plan.
7" is a perfect size to fit in the map pocket of a motorcycle tankbag.

I JUST bought one for $329 on Monday... whatever, I can't complain, it's only $30 and I got a deal on the case, and I'm loving it either way.

"In stores only" Yeah you can go ahead and get large bag of chips and a 12 pack of cokes while you're at it.

That's exactly the idea. They're probably taking a loss at $299 so they're hoping to sell a few items with better margins while you're at it.

1 - You're a lot more likely to add items to a real cart if you physically walk by them than you are to add them to a virtual cart if you scroll by them.
2 - If you're already spending $299, you won't feel bad about dropping another few dozen dollars on items you wouldn't otherwise consider acceptably priced.

Not completely true.

Walmart undercut them by 99 cents;)

Amazon wants $340 for the black and $349 for the white iPad mini 16GB Wi-Fi models. Weird!

Those are from third-party sellers, not Amazon.

This is what the original price should have been. $299 just feels psychologically a lot better than $329.

It's mathematically better too!

Definitely agree. Not sure why they went with the 329 price point. But some statistical genius smarter than me probably figured margins and aura for the product would be higher with the 329 price point.

The iPad mini is such a great device; the price is too high, however!

Drop that to $199, and you have a winner. 3 year old tech for $299 is too much asking price!!!

Apple has a way of pushing people... We think it should be $299, but they tack on the $29 just to remind us that we are buying a premium product. That's where the psychology comes in to play.

Rather than saying, "It's great, and it was only $299". We say, "It's great. Sure it was $330, but it was worth it!"

We are happy either way, but Apple goes the route that will get them an extra $30.

Not surprising, since WalMart owns Sam's Club ;)

I'm itching for a new iPad, but I think I want to wait for the new one to be announced before deciding.

And Target will price match this. $300 + 15% off (10% employee discount from family & 5% RedCard) = cheaper.

Yes, surprising. When Walmart had the iPhone 5 for $188, Sam's had it for $197 still. Different buyers and deals.

Amazon's iPad prices are always terrible because they're trying to compete with their kindle fire.

No, it's because they don't sell them directly and the prices are set by the third party sellers.

Nothing new here .. it's just the way it should cost right from the beginning.

$299 sounds about right for a 16GB WiFi iPad Mini

This is a great deal! If your waiting for the Retina Mini,(like so many of us are) it would probably be better if you just get the iPad 5 when that comes out instead.
