My 60 GB 5G iPod is in the mail (thank you, eBay, for letting me get rid of my old one before people figured it out!), and I've ordered the Dock to go with it.
What I want to know is this: can I see the iPod menu on the TV if I connect it using the AV cables? If so, that would be cool - just rip the DVD's to my iPod using Handbrake or other programs, and then leave my DVD's alone, and surf the menu whenever I want to listen to music/watch a movie.
If you have to look at the iPod screen to see the menu - well, then what's the point of that? I mean, why have a remote to a little screen you have to get up and walk across the room to see anyway?
Anyway. I'm guessing that it's "no menu, just the video you dork knob", but I haven't heard anything official from anyone on this subject yet.

If the dock and remote were $40...I would sure as heck have ordered one with my G5 iPod...but currently they're just too expensive :(

Quite. I don't see how you are supposed to navigate through your music collection without a screen. Personally, I would have thought that the iPod screen would be duplicated on the remote with the the iPod docked to your stereo or TV (after all not everyone has a 5G iPod). You can then easily browse your collection from the comfort of your kitchen, couch, bed, bath or even toilet. And yes, I am assuming bluetooth would be a better choice than IR ... throw in WiFi, and why not even redirect output to the AirPort (and later AirPort Video) of choice?
