mini dvi to vga resolution problem

Hi there i came to here im having a weird problem i just purchased a mini dvi to vga adapter i have a later 2007 macbook white when i connect the adapter to my tv via vga i only gets a 4:3 resolution instead of 16:9 which i want a full screen i get a 2 black shoulders
i chose detect display under displays and stretched resolution didn't worked out for me

any suggestions guys ?
i really want it to work out
