The iBook looses time every time i disconnect the power. Yes the battery is completely dead. Is there another battery that keeps time or cmos chip ect???

It seems to me that your clock should be good no matter what. A few years ago we had a similar problem with my iMac, and although I don't remember how to fix it, I'm pretty sure it was a more serious problem.

The iBook does not have a backup battery to maintain the NVRAM or clock. Just the main battery and the power adapter. If the battery is dead or missing, and you unplug the power, then boom, the clock is toast. If you're running OS X, go to Time/Date preferences and tell the 'puter to pull the time off Apple's time server, which is an acceptable workaround if the 'puter is on the Internet most/all the time.
