i saw gibson at a local neighborhood dog event over the summer in the san jose area. i have a great dane too, but he's not nearly that tall (though he is taller than me when he's on his hind legs - probably about 5'6"). the only thing i worry about with gibson is strain on his knees and hips from being made to stand so much. dogs aren't made to stand on their hind legs like that, and i'm sure he weighs over 150 lbs, so that can't be good over time...

Holy moly... that is one tall doggie. I prefer big dogs... that is until they do precisely that-- stand on their hind legs and tower over me. :o He looks like a sweetie, though.

Shaq look out. i bet even the dog hits free throws better than him. heck he would probabaly just work for doggie bisquits and be just about as tall lol :D

That dogs probally nicer than my chihauhau.Seriously... I've met nastier meaner little dogs than big ones. There was this one woman in the area who walked her doberman and her doberman-marking-look-alike chihuahua all the time-- the tiny one was evil, pure evil, but the big doberman was the biggest sweetheart.

Amazing. It's good that Great Danes are generally so even-tempered. We had a neighbor that raised them, and one day one of her puppies got out and was roaming the neighborhood. Our dog was barking one night about 10:00 and I went out to get her inside and saw this dog looking over our gate, which was 4' tall. This dog was 6 months old.
We took her home, and she was still a rather clumsy puppy. Let me tell you, walking her back you knew when she ran into you. She almost knocked me over a couple times (I'm about 6' and was about 190 lbs at the time).

Our neighbors have 3 chihuahuas and they tend to roam the neighborhood unattended. Except in our yard, since one of them almost got eaten by our labs when they wandered into our yard (and our dogs are sweethearts).
They're just these little yippy nasty buggers. I know some can be fine, but these are just annoying.

A guy I work with has a Saint Bernard and a VW Cabriolet. He brought his dog to work on an off day, when it was a mere pup. At 9 months of age, the dog was 120 pounds. It was kinda funny seeing him get the dog back into the car when he left. The dog, sitting in the passenger seat, was taller than the man.
Don't know how related it is, but he recently traded in that Cabrio for a Honda Element.

I like intelligent dogs, especially working dogs. Not the stupid ones.
I used to dislike dogs, till I met a working sheepdog when I was a teenager. That dog was more intelligent than half the people I'd met up to that point. A few hours playing with her changed my views with dogs forever...
An aquaintance has a lapdog, some sort of poodle / chiwahuana crossbreed. It's so dumb I got fed up with it. We went to the park, and it would walk a couple of meters, start feeling lost and mewl around for its owner, who was standing a couple of feet behind it. I started wanting to punt it over the hedge. Deffo true what they say about dogs being as intelligent as their owner. (Rimshot :)
I'm thinking of getting a Hearing Dog for the Deaf, as my family and 9 month old kid are all Deaf, and she's getting to the point where she's gonna be wandering around having adventures and getting lost.
I used to be quite against Hearing Dogs for the Deaf (I'm Deaf myself) as I think it's insulting to the dog to use it as an alarm clock or doorbell alerter (buy a vibrating alarm clock and a flashing doorbell!).
Also the charity that trains them fundraises far more easily than many organisations that do more important work with the Deaf community (Do i seem cynical? Me?)
Now that I have a Deaf daughter, a dog could be useful in helping us to find her when she falls over / gets lost / aid family communications.
Why specifically a Hearing Dog? Tho I'm not keen on that name, in the UK, they have greater legal rights than most dogs, it's easier to travel with them, and they can enter restaurants and so on.
Recently their training has been changed so I can specify what training they get - I don't want an intelligent dog's brain wasted on becoming a canine alarm clock - so I'm a little more easy with the idea of getting a Hearing Dog now.

I've had three Irish Wolfhounds, and I would almost swear that the second one (now deceased, on my birthday, no less) was about 7 feet tall standing. I'm 6'1, and it was significantly taller than me. i'll hunt down a photo, I think any photos of him on his two hind legs predated my digital camera, so I'll have to grab a scanner, too. and, when I was in ireland a few years ago, I went to one of the breeders of irish wolfhounds, and they had one that was a little larger than the one I had. The one I have now, though, is a female, and shes only a year and half or so old, and shes about as tall as me standing up, maybe an inch of two shorter. irish wolfhounds: most gentle dogs ever.

At lunch today I popped to the bank and outside as I went in there was a women with a large dog, which looked like a cross between a labrador and a doberman. It looked like a young dog but was still pretty big and as she crossed the road it just lay down in the middle of the road and refused to move. The stubborn son of a bitch just lay there and refused to move, as I went in she was having to lift it's rear end a shift it then lift the front end to 'walk' it across the road.
I came out again about ten mins. later and she'd made it to the side of the road out of the traffic and was on the phone, to I'm guessing her husband, saying "..well I can't bloody lift him and he won't walk. You'll have to come and get him.."
She was well pissed when I took a photo with my cellphone:D

but dogs Rule! :-D
I have owned both in my life and I like cats, as long as they are outdoor cats.
Litterboxes are right up there with open sewers as far as hygiene and smell goes. Plus, it seems indoor cats are always a little bit crazy. I mean, if you need to declaw your cat because it is going crazy and shredding the furniture, or having to deal with "marking" (basically the cat spraying pee/musk over everything) maybe its not supposed to be in the situation it is in.
On the other hand, after a couple of weeks of training, any dog will go outside to do its business, and dogs actually are glad to see you when you come home, regardless if its feeding time or not.
Currently I have a 3 year old, 115lb, female Bernese Mountain Dog, named Scout. Attached is a pic from last winter, she loves snow!
Its tiny, but I don't have the pictures on this POS work computer.
