I just got my 12" 1.33GHz iBook G4 today- and it is freakin' awesome!!! :)

see related thread- http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=1843903&posted=1#post1843903

The design is incredible, the display is gorgeous, the glowing Apple logo on the back rocks, the keyboard works nice for typing, the 1.33GHz PowerPC G4 processor seems very zippy, its holds a nice long charge, its super-lightweight and ultra-portable, I could go on forever...

In short, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! :D :D :D :D :D

Sorry, but I just had to share this before I exploded. :)

Anyone even considering purchasing a iBook G4 should just go ahead and order one- they R-O-C-K! :)

Mark me up as a superfan of the new iBooks! :)

Great! It's a great machine. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and could not be happier about it. I just love being able to beat it around (within reason) and not have to worry about it dying on me. I just keep it in a little generic zip-up sleeve and put it in my backpack and I'm good to go! Enjoy :)

Oops, I just noticed that I titled this thread "My 12' iBook G4 just arrived!" instead of "My 12" iBook G4 just arrived!"

So before someone shows me the error of my ways, I bought and received an iBook G4 with a 12 "inch" screen- not a 12 "foot" screen.

What type of 'Book are you looking for?

Guess that it doesn't matter- they all rock! :D
An iBook G4 comes highly recommended though (depending on your needs of course).

Our 14'' iBook just arrived on Monday, our first Mac. The girl and I are madly in love with this computer too. Her only issue is that shortcuts for Excel are not the same and possible not as extensive/intuitive as in Windows. For instance, I think she said Control + I + R is to insert a new row. I know we can program shortcuts but I'm not sure I can do these 3 key ones, like Apple Key + I + R or whatever. Ah well, I'm happy at least. :)

I like them both very much. My concern with the 12" size was whether my eyes would feel too much strain at my age. Fortunately, that does not seem to be a problem. While at Apple using Safari, I make the minimum font size 14, then enlarge the print size and everything is fine. The 12" and me could be very happy together.

Ha, I was about to comment on how insane it would be to have a 12 foot iBook ;)

Glad you got your computer, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

I got my 12" iBook last weekend, and I'm thrilled with mine. I was agonising over whether I should go with the 12" or the 14" model because cost and portability are important to me, but I wasn't sure whether I could work with a 12" display.

As it turns out, I'm really happy with the 12" and it hasn't taken long for me to get used to the smaller display.

If he had managed to snare a 12 foot computer, at least he would have received mention in the Guinness Book of Records for the cheapest price ever paid for such an easy on the eyes iBook.

... the display is gorgeous...

You're kidding me, right? The display on my cousin's 12" iBook is complete crap. The viewing angle at full brightness is like... 5 degrees. And it has a dead pixel.

I thought the 12" iBooks were known for having really crappy LCDs.

It's actually not bad at all. Obviously you can't compare it to Sony's high-resolution ultrabright notebook displays, but it's very good in normal lighting conditions. The viewing angle is also pretty good, and since the display is small, you don't really need a very wide viewing angle.

And dmw007, congrats! :)

Ooh, congratulations. Some guy in my college canteen had one and it looked gorgeous. I'm really tempted to sell my 12" 1.33GHz PB and get a 12" 1.33GHz iBook. Even though that makes no sense. Even though there's no reason to. :o

They're just so pretty and white. Can't wait for the pics.

Hmm, my camera does not appear to work with Mac. I connect it to my computer (tried both my Power Mac and iBook) and the screen on the camera changes to "USB Mode", but is not recognized on my Mac.
Any thoughts...

Sorry it looks like no pics guys. I can try later on today, but I have to head to college now (and then work from there). :o

Has it mounted as a USB drive? If it has, you can go into the folders on it and find the pictures in there.

I don't think he's kidding. The LCD on mine is not the brightest in the world when not plugged in, but it is clear and sharp, with no dead pixels. It certainly has more than a 5 degree viewing angle, and I have not seen anyone except you complain about their poor reputation.

Mine is 2 months old. I love it-- the combination of portability, battery life, wireless reception and price are wonderful.

Or is this a cunning ruse so I then have the same computer as you, and therefore when I made a sleeve for mine, it would be easy to make on for yours too? I see, now I get it....;)

and if all else fails, get a $3 card reader! It'll mount as a drive. Drag into iPhoto and BAM! Done.

Maybe your digital james bond spycamera isn't supposed to play well with iPhoto.. it'd be too easy for the uh.. guys who want to off James Bond.

My display on the 12" iBook is fantastic. Just check your brightness setting! I've had mine get turned down somehow, so check it evey now and then.

I just now ordered a new refurb 12" iBook 1.33GHz/ 512 MB for my daughter

She'll be set for college this fall.

i don't want to turn this into a love in. but the iBook is a fantastic product. i'm sure a PB or a top of the range PC laptop can open safari a millisecond or 2 quicker. but frankly, i don't care because unless you use the machine by the stopwatch, you won't know the difference.

it's very portable, very reliable, very easy to use and it's a bargain!

iBooks are great. I have had PowerBooks in the past that gave me trouble but the two iBooks I owned were great machines. I have an iMac G5 on the way and I think in the spring I am going to add an iBook to the lineup. Great machine!

I gotta join the littany here. I still have a 3 year old G3 900 ibook running solidly for my wife. I bought a PB 15" 1.5 Superdrive yada, yada , yada. It died after 3 months "something about catastrophic failure". I really like the appearance of the PB, but honestly after having my new 12" iBook 1.33, 1.5gig Ram, I cannont get over how fast this thing is. It easily keeps up with the day to day tasks I do. Battery life is honestly about six hours! The screen is much better than on my G3 iBook; bright, crisp, clear! They updated the keyboard too, quieter more pb like. For iPhoto and CS work, I cannot tell a difference between this and the PB. I got this thing refurb'd for $799 and thats' roughly a GRAND less than the PB! Nothing on the PB, as far as I'm concerned right now is worth a $1000 difference. iBooks Rock!

I also like my 12" iBook 1.33 GHz which I bought this summer. The price was good ($999) and at this price, I am more comfortable taking it out with me on the road (as I am not comfortable lugging around my PBs as they are more expensive and have shiny aluminum case). I can run CS2 with this iBook so that I can work on the marketing materials on the road. It is easy to pick up from the bag compared to PB (I just feel PB will slip from my grips because of relatively slippery casing). Nice screen (I set its brightnes at 20% or 30% most of the time). Very portable with good battery life (I have not yet tested its battery, though). Well built construction of the unit.

Let us know if you do that. Given the problems with airport reception that are experienced by those who put in a 1 gig stick (for a total of 1.5 MB), a 512MB stick seems to be the best option, especially for a non-power user like me who thinks his machine is plenty fast enough with the preinstalled 512.

I just dropped by the Tyson's Corner Apple Store yesterday to re-assure myself on the wisdom of purchasing my daughter's new 12" iBook refurb.

I gotta tell you, I'm really impressed with the iBook more than I thought
I would be and actually prefer the form factor to the 12" PB.
In fact knowing my daughter, the iBook will certainly be more durable
knocking around in her book bag.

I also noticed that the store demos all were running with 1 GB RAM installed.

Of course I wish the iBooks had the better 64 MB VRAM and the DVI out, and at least a 60 GB hard drive, but it's very difficult to justify $500 more for the 12" PB over the iBook's $799 refurb price.

I'll be checking Crucial, OWC and Datamem for RAM prices.

Now if only I could afford to get one for myself.
