Was at B&N yesterday and they are selling the Nook HD+ (with 9" screen) for $149 (16 Gig) and $179 (32 Gig). I looked online and they are regular prices so they appear to be in-store only. Units are NEW. Sale is supposed to go until the end of the month.
The regular iPad was always too big for me, and I got a Nexus 7 and that's too small. I found the Nook HD+ at the store to be just right - for $149 you can't go wrong.
PROS - Great screen and size, very sturdy, Android based.
CONS - Uses Nook Store instead of Google Play, so many apps are not available (one of the Android apps I use for free the Nook Store only has the paid version). Uses special Nook connector instead of microUSB. Not as easy as iOS.
Overall, a great value - went with the cheaper as you can expand with microSD cards. Also, I understand, you can hack it to put regular Android on it.
