.Mac Backup launches every morning between 6 and 7 AM and updates my vital data, such as bookmarks, documents, websites, e-mail, address book, etc.
I have more "permanent" stuff saved on Zip Disks and CD-R's in a Fireproof safe.

I know this will be echoed throughout this thread... "I should back up more often"
and "I don't know why I don't..."
I backup about once a month. I know I should back up more often. I don't know why I don't...

I NEVER ever made a backup... Before my computer's HD (Q******, BTW...) Died a few months ago Fortunately, it was possible to retrieve data, but since then... I made a backup once. So, Even such emergency cases do not teach people. At least some people.

I backe up my home pc last year, I think. If it dies, I will probably lose a few emails, so I am not too worried about it.
My TIBook at work is another story. I use it far more than my home pc, so I back it up on occasion. Even then, if something happens, at most I'll lose a few emails.
So I'm not too *blip* Rogers HD just died.:D

I usually back up each project I work on and keep a copy archived in a different room. I'll need to actually move it out of the house to be more secure. I do know that I need to back up more often.

While I was working on a huge project for uni I backed up like a crazy man. I backed up onto a second internal drive a few times a day, on to CD every second day or so which were stored safely away from the house, and every week or so I'd send a CD to a friend's place. I was paranoid I'd lose some of my work. Luckily I didn't, but if I had, I wouldn't have lost much! :)

Maybe I'm just tempting the fates, but I'm too damn lazy to backup everything. Besides, I've never had any HD faliures since i got my first mac :D

Tempting fate, indeed. Personally I've never had a HD failure since I started using PC 12 years ago but it is not just hardware failure to worry about. What about accidental damage/lost/theft? My wife has an iBook and I have a Tibook. Both of us travel across the Atlantic frequently and the last thing we need is to lose our work through losing our laptop somewhere, or be stolen. It's like saying we don't need motor insurance coz I've never had a car accident...
FYI, I backup our data once a week onto tape.

Never....
After almost 3 years with my iMac and a year with my iBook, I have never once lost anything...Guess you could say I have a lot of faith in my Macs...well yeah I do....If there is any piece of electronics that I have total trust and faith in, it is my Apple products.
Now of course, if I were using these for real life business and not just home and classroom...I probably would be backing up at least once a week or so.

Dad told me long ago........there are those who've lost data, and those who will. I thought he was silly.
After the first time I lost a customers files (a talented singer but she did have a heck of a temper - *ouch*) I got paranoid.
I have an extra internal 120GB and an external 120, I copy EVERYTHING I work on to BOTH, back up daily over a network to another machine, then archive stuff.
I know it's anal and I'll never need 99.9% off it. I don't care, I sleep at night!
Now if only MW would get here so I can get a new PM - the $ is burning a hole in my pocket! Suffering from GAS (gear aquisition syndrome)!

Never. I just put a whole bunch of divx Kung Fu movies onto
CD-Rs so they wouldn't take up my whole hard-drive. I love
Kazaa, I mean, what other p2p client can you download basically
unheard of kung fu movies ?!?!? :D

I haven't backed up in years. never had anything all that important on the drive. I did backup once, put a bunch of stuff in stuffit archives that I segmented and then put on CD-R. I wiped my drive and thought I was good to go to put that stuff on there again.
Problem was the stuffit archives didn't burn correctly or something. Lesson learned. When you back up to CD, make sure the CD's work before you go ahead and do something hasty.
But I don't have much worth backing up now anyway.

I have a Pismo 500. I back up every time I change an important file to an external fire wire hard drive. When finished I burn two CDR's and store them at different locations. I back up bookmarks and favorites every six weeks to the external drive. The first computer I owned was a Frankenstein of a 386. I made believe that every time I would shut it off, it would be the last time. When it died I laughed because I had multiple floppies of all important data.
