Planning to buy a new iMac as soon as my local store gets thext shipment, along with a copy of Logic 7 Express.

I've compared the 17" and 20" screens extensively for a few weeks now, and seem to have come to the conclusion that 17" should be plenty. Sure it looks small when sitting right next to a 20", but on its own, it's really not small at all.

Will I have issues when working with Logic? (Planning on fairly basic use, not too many plugins, effects etc.) Will it be too cluttered?

I think for apps such as Logic and FCP, the more screen realestate you have the better.

I was playing with Logic demos just yesterday in the Apple store with the 30" display. Wow!

Buy what you can afford, and make the best of it.
