Ever since installing Tiger, I've noticed that my computer (specs in sig) intermittently has times when the graphics/video become horribly slow. This occurs in games (video-intensive or not), iTunes visualizers, finder navigation, Safari, etc. According to top, I can get as many as two pageins/sec by simply moving a window around! No program/task seems to be taking an inordinate amount of memory/cpu, so what would cause a bottleneck at a random time? Now, I may not have a ton of memory, but I'd hope it'd be enough to reduce these bottlenecks. This was never a problem before Tiger. In addition to the specs, I have nearly 217GB of space free on that drive, and at a normal state I'm running with about 170MB of RAM free and about 5.5 GB virtual memory.

Is there any big memory gobbler in Tiger I could turn off? I'm running with limited widgets. Is it possible that my second (older) hard drive could be causing the problem? Perhaps iDisk auto-sync?

Just curious: you're not running Virex, are you? Not a good idea under Tiger if you are.

Not that I know of; don't see anything listed in top/Activity Monitor. I have it, but practically never use it.

Just make sure it's all removed... it has a few services that launch, even if you don't run it (well, maybe not, depending on how you set it up... but you might have them running and not even know it). It's incompatible w/Tiger, so you don't need it anyway. :)

I had a similar problem with my Mini, I used TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior, can't remember which one but it fixed it.
I never really figured out what caused it but I believe it was some haxie or something like it.

Widgets are very ram intensive so turn the off when using othe RAM ntensive applications such as Photoshop of FCP
