I'm about to install an SSD into my macbooks opti-bay and I wanted to know what's the easiest way to move only my applications and OSX from my current HDD to the new SSD. So far the forums I've read say to install OSX on the new SSD but there must be an easier option.

If I were you, I'd back everything up, then create a Core Storage LVG with the two disks for maximum performance. It's known as the Fusion Drive to Apple marketing. There are a few guides around to get it set up. Here's one: http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/Setting-Up-A-Fusion-Drive-On-Your-Current-Mac.htm

He also seems to give you a good rundown on its advantages, so I'd give it a read.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know Apple was doing this. Still it seems very tedious with little advantages. I'm not that techy and using termial commands seem overkill for what I need from this SSD. My OS and apps will be on the SSD so that'll be good enough.
