I just found a cool little app/utility and I though I should share (for those who don't have it already).

Its called "AirPort Client Monitor".

So sure, you might be on a "G" network, but are you really getting your 54Mbps? Lets find out 🙂

Download here [BTW its made by Apple]...http://download.info.apple.com/Mac_OS_X/061-1087.20040419.AptmG/2Z/AirPortManagementTools.dmg

Me: It seems I have a "perfect signal", I'm getting all 54Mbps (It gets jumpy when you move your 'Book)

Seems good to me. It's less than 2m from the base. 😛

Cannot get it to drop the transmit rate by twisting and turning my iBook, even if I get the signal strength to vary a bit. Might be because I'm only ~10 ft from my AirPort Express... 😉

Does this work with non airport routers? Apparentley I'm getting 0mbps (wtf?) but everything works.

Erm, 54Mbps for me and I'm out by the pool (I love the summer) the original base station is on the other side of the house (50m away) and the second one (extender) is in the middle of the house, about 30m away. This doesn't sound right.

Looks like mine is pretty strong too. But then again I have an Airport Express 10 feet away and an Airport Extreme with antenna about 30 feet away. By the way, this measurement was taken from my backyard. I love my signal.

This app brough up a question... If I reduce the speed, does my range extend? Just like "n" routers extend "G" networks?

I've been looking for this sort of app for a long, long time. Those four bars in the menu were just too simple for me.
