http://images.macrumors.com/article-new/2013/05/vuduplayerlogo.pngVUDU (http://www.vudu.com/), the third most popular internet video-on-demand provider (http://www.macrumors.com/2013/04/23/apple-continues-to-dominate-u-s-online-video-purchase-and-rental-markets/) behind Apple's iTunes and Amazon's Instant Video, today updated its app with a feature that allows users to download movies for offline viewing, a redesigned video player, and more.

Previously, VUDU users using the VUDU Player app had to stream their content from within the app and could not view their movies and TV shows offline. With the new update, users can download their content at various qualities for use when an internet connection isn't available.

Other changes include a redesigned video player that's easier to use, Closed Captioning support for iPhone and general bug fixes throughout the app.

VUDU Player (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vudu-player/id487285735?mt=8#) is a universal app that's available for free in the App Store. [Direct Link (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vudu-player/id487285735?mt=8#)]

Looks like the app supports full airplay now too! Nice.

Well done, much better than the Flixster app. Finally a good way to watch Ultraviolet digital copies on a plane :)

I'm confused - where is NetFlix in that ranking?

Netflix isn't VOD. It's a monthly streaming service. You can't gt Netflix movies a la carte like you can with the services listed.

Compile 'em all

"VUDU, the third most popular"

Never heard of them until this article :p.

VUDU player app will be updated on AppleTV in near future?, hopefully. I can use AirPlay to send video streaming movie from MacBook Pro or iPad but I dislike little choppy video.

I used VUDU disc-to-digital to get HD digital copy's of most of my older dvd's for only $5 each, saving an upgrade to blu-ray if they were even available in that format. I think it's the better service of the 3 since unlike iTunes its available on most every internet capable box or blu-ray player or tv and with the ps3 will even play 3d movies and VUDU is seamless with UV support.

Never heard of them either until today. It must be a USA-only service, as usual.

First time I've ever heard of them. I guess there must be a big space between #2 and #3.

I don't use the Vudu app for iOS but rather on my Blueray player. Although the UI is rather clumsy, it allows streaming without purchasing an additional set-top box.

anybody else have trouble using this? mine just asks for login details, then hangs.

edit: nevermind. it's still slow as **** in a constipated camel.

Read nothing but negative comments when I went to download it.

(And, yes, it is only a USA service.) People were not pleased. Not sure I would allow it to live on my iPhone or iPads. The developer needs to have a read of the comments and then do something about it.

I am happy some people are pleased with it but I am still a bit cautious.
