I received a message from an eBay seller the other day when inquiring on a power supply tester for my iMac PPC 20" that is on it's 2nd powersupply.

The eBayer states he is selling external power supplies similar to this one which he provided a link for.

I'm not sure if the link will open properly as I am using Google translator, but they want $800. crazy money.

Sure sounds like a cool idea being I'm still not ready to give up on this iMac. I'll still purchase another power supply from eBay as mine is getting weird with sudden shut downs again.
Any thoughts have any of you tried this yet?
Thanks,
Linda

I just don't think anyone will pay $800 for an external power supply for such an old Mac. That is absolutely ridiculous. It would be much cheaper and cleaner to install a replacement OEM power supply. For $800 just buy a (much) better iMac.

I would NEVER EVER even consider paying that. Apple was still selling new PSUs directly to AASP's for $56 about 2 years ago. They don't now, but thats all they're worth. All he's doing is splicing some wires onto a generic PC PSU. The least he could do is put it into a more attractive box.. Bottom line: You'd be a complete idiot to but that.

Nice idea. They may actually sell some if they take a zero off that price tag!

Agreed...
Basically, an acceptable price would be in the range of normal PC PSU + 30-50/$ for extra parts...

Could it be pesos? That would be about 65 bucks US.
