Just a visual glitch - nothing serious. The item's graphic simply very occasionally fails to load and is replaced by the general glow of light. Not normal, but never been a problem for me.
That sounds about right. Ive actually, now that I think about it, seen this happen but to smaller objects.
Only in this case it was a big one, a red one, and at the very dead end on a map. As you can see in the screenshot.
