need a way to control apple tv with my macbook pro because i left my apple remote at home and have no way of connecting the atv to the wifi. im renting a house and the tv is bolted down on one side of the room and the router hooked up to the only dsl jack is on another. i found a spare ethernet cable but its only a 3ft cable. I used that to connect my mbp to the atv and shared my signal so now the atv has internet but no controls. It still doesnt show up on the wifi as well.

Any solutions?

You might be able to use Apple Configurator (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apple-configurator/id434433123?mt=12) to get the :apple:TV to connect to Wi-Fi. However that doesn't really solve the control issue, unless you also have an iOS device - then you could use the Remote (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/remote/id284417350?mt=8) app.

Now that was an incredibly helpful piece of information.
