Well... hope they'll make it better over time, since it looks like it was done too quickly...

As much as I'd love to love the new UI, the whole minimalistic design (when we're talking about UI) is kind of worse than what we see on Mac OS X in UX. It's not really user-friendly. The elements are not properly separated and there is almost no hierarchy.

Few elements of the design are not that bad but:

- Game Center, Notes, Reminders, Settings, Newsstand, Calculator and Contacts icons - Oh really?!
- the bottom Safari bar - ewwww
- the small spaces between two messages
- cluttered photo gallery - oh Apple, what have you done...
- the quick on/off thingy - that doesn't even fit the design!

I could go on and on, but I think you get me....

I thnk all the new API available to developers could be the biggest improvement in the long run. Will give a lot of functionality to developers to do a lot of great things. This will be one item that will be forgotten about from a lot of people who will complain, in a couple of days that IOS7 doesn't have enough.

So what is this "see behind the icons" thing I read about? Sounds interesting, but no one does more than mention it. What use is it? How does it work? I get that it senses you move the phone, but then what? The apps go flying off or something?

icons are a layer "in front" of the wallpaper

It basically makes your icons appear on a 3d layer, kinda like glass, so if you tilt your phone it'll make it look your wallpaper can move behind it!

I'm going off of everything I scavenge from the announcement, based on screenshots and official releases, so I can't tell you right now, but once people download the beta i'm sure a flood will come in saying wether you can or not. very nice overhaul...a fresh, colorful take on the old and used system! and for sure a lot of us welcome the many improvements that mimic the success of multiple jailbreak tweaks!

with that said, I think it is safe to say that we all are left wanting for ONE of the most wanted feature: the introduction of bitesms's full capabilities (QuickReply), which is sadly not here yet.........:(

I agree it's a great OS except for the app icons which I am a bit skeptical about...

Apple wisely made the icons look feminine with some pastel colors and nothing edgy or masculine.

They really know their target market. It's also one of the reasons the phone sells so well. It's tiny, shiny, so the girls and women can accessorize the heck out of an iphone. That's what women love to do, the choices across the spectrum of iPhone accessory companies is mind boggling.

As far as how iOS 7 functions, only time will tell how that goes. I'd guess it will be smooth and easy to use, hallmarks of "it just works". Once again, very appealing to the ladies. Apple's got to be very happy with this style.

I really like the overall functionality and UI of iOS 7.

But they did a bad job with the icons, like really? Even I can do a better job at designing Flat UI icons. What were they thinking?

The icons that i cannot stand are:

-Photos
-Camera
-Reminders
-Stocks
-Newsstand
-Settings
-Safari

Also, did anyone else feel like the back arrow button in the UI was too big compared to the text?

These icons look like they were done years ago. Nothing modern about it. It's very much possible to make a modern looking minimal flat UI.

I beg every single developer to complain to Apple about the icons! Please share this with any developers you know who feel the same!

Also, are the wallpapers live? Like the Nexus ones? And what features will the iPhone 4S not receive?

I beg every single developer to complain to Apple about the icons! Please share this with any developers you know who feel the same!

Also, are the wallpapers live? Like the Nexus ones? And what features will the iPhone 4S not receive?

I really like the overall functionality and UI of iOS 7.

But they did a bad job with the icons, like really? Even I can do a better job at designing Flat UI icons. What were they thinking?

The icons that i cannot stand are:

-Photos
-Camera
-Reminders
-Stocks
-Newsstand
-Settings
-Safari

Also, did anyone else feel like the back arrow button in the UI was too big compared to the text?

It will have Live Wallpapers...from what I saw. And I know that the iPhone 4S wont receive AirDrop

very nice overhaul...a fresh, colorful take on the old and used system! and for sure a lot of us welcome the many improvements that mimic the success of multiple jailbreak tweaks!

with that said, I think it is safe to say that we all are left wanting for ONE of the most wanted feature: the introduction of bitesms's full capabilities (QuickReply), which is sadly not here yet.........:(

It's definitely an improvement over iOS 6, but...

-the icons aren't great, especially safari and mail.
-some things seem to be all the same size, or too big. Like the bottom bar in safari - all the icons are a bit too big; and, for example, in messages if you're viewing a specific conversation in the top left there's a button to go back and the top right you can 'contact' them, those in my opinion are too big in comparison to the middle text -- there needs to be some scaling down of some elements to make them seem 'less important' than the middle 'title'. The size of the 'icons' in the bottom bar of the music app is good; in safari...not so good.
-the transparency looks good in some areas, but not others.
-he kept on mentioning layers, but I think there needs to be layering inside the apps; there needs to be more contrast between the top bar / bottom bar and the app 'panel' (the middle bit).

But apart from that (and the lack of widgets and live icons), I'm really liking the new interface.

I'm saddened that AirDrop is exclusive to the iPhone 5 and the Camera filters in the camera app.

But at least you can use the filters in the Photos app. That particular cutoff is probably due to hardware requirements for real-time rendering in the Camera app 'viewfinder'.

the whole UI looks a lot like yahoo's weather app. I wonder if Apple is behind the gorgeous design of yahoo's new app, and if they launched it to get the public's opinion on it before going wide with WWDC...

if only they'd lose the gradients in the new OS, it'd be modern, sleek and perfect.

It's very un-iPhone like ... dare I say it, it's quite "Android-ish", but in a good way. It's very clean and modern, and iOS 6's interface looks incredibly bulky and dated in comparison now.

At the end of the day, the sensible ones among us all called this bang on. There are people here who bitched about Apple needing to change iOS drastically or they would lose their custom. Apple delivered, iOS is "polarizing", it is a drastic change from iOS releases of the past, yet these same people are now bitching about Safari's icon, etc.

This for me is a good example of where iOS7 still needs a fair amount of polish. I think there will be quite a few little UI tweaks before major release. Another example is how the OS decides whether to use black or white icon labels on the home screen. On several screenshots its barely legible in white.

A few notes that I am seeing as I am scrolling through this thread:

Am I the only one that noticed the new FaceTime app?

The Clock icon is indeed "live" (you can see the second pointer rotating).
"Spotlight" (the screen to the left of the first home screen) is gone. (As someone else noted you can pull down anywhere on the apps and get a search bar. Pretty cool!)
You can now put Newstand in a folder! Yay!
The "New" banner on apps when you first download them is gone, now it is a blue dot to the left of the name. (Weird…)
Yes, the icons are slightly more rounded than before. You can tell by looking at apps that have a "border" on them, the border does not align with where they are now cut off.
Many of the icons in the top bar have been updated/changed.

Yes, the icons are slightly more rounded than before. You can tell by looking at apps that have a "border" on them, the border does not align with where they are now cut off.
Many of the icons in the top bar have been updated/changed.

Is it possible to change the toggles and apps that are presented in Control Centre? eg. swap bluetooth for personal hotspot

can someone check if in Messages/SMS if you are able to search key words that do not appear on the current page of conversations. After a while it gets really annoying selecting "load earlier messages" 100 times. I know you can search key words in spotlight as well but in iOS 6, even after it locates the text it defaults to the most recent texts. Thanks!

The lockscreen fades in and out.
Compass now tracks the plane of the phone, and has a whole section dedicated to plane tracking.
There is a new FaceTime app on iPhones
Videos support for iCloud
Pulling down on the homescreen reveals spotlight
In Safari, swiping up reveals iCloud tabs
There is a Private browsing button on the new tab section in Safari
When charging the battery, rather than an image of a battery on a lock screen, x% charged appears under the clock, before reverting to the date.
Settings now features Cellular in the first group
Vimeo and Flickr are integrated into iOS
App Store now shows Apps that are popular in your location
Notification Center and Control Center bounce depending on speed and velocity of the swipe
When listening to music, the background is blurred and the album artwork sits in front
There are now privacy settings for the Microphone
Do Not Disturb has a manual mode
text size can be changed
You can control which apps background refresh
There are options to reduce motion, have noise cancellation, and switch controls are available

What in gods name happened to Apple, that they could fall so far behind? Forget Google, Blackberry looks damn good next to IOS! I wish all of these companies would STOP suing and START sharing. The strategy has really backfired on Apple.

Or I could post in a forum, specialized for apple products, in the thread specifically created to discuss ios 7.

A swipe down on the apps on the home screen brings the search feature back that we thought was missing.

Can anyone confirm either yes or no if the photos app still has the traditional albums view, including the camera roll? "Moments" and "Collections" is a neat idea, but sometimes I just like scrolling through my Camera roll looking for random photos. I'm hoping they've buried it in there somewhere. Screenshots would be extra appreciated!

Yes.
Three sections down the bottom: Photos, Shared and Albums.
The 'Photos' section contains your moments and collections while 'Albums' is just what it says.

The albums part shows a traditional album view. The first couple of options at the bottom look sort of like on the presentation. I think it is too cluttered. I would have liked a more android like album like approach. Something that looks like the photos are stacked and spread out like a deck of cards or something. The part where it recognizes when you took the photo and when, looks way too cluttered.

For anyone who was watching my stream of the features: Reflector stopped sending out the signal for AirPlay. Maybe I can get it up tomorrow and take requests (with audio)

Awesome. So why are you hanging out in an iOS thread? Go talk about your obviously superior Droid Maxx HD elsewhere. Let us have our fun and we'll let you have yours.

Not to mention, you lashing out at a random person for asking the same kind of question that many others are asking here makes you appear laughably stodgy. Might wanna dump the urine out of your Cheerios.

Is it me or the battery lasts way longer now? I need to fully charge and use my iPhone in order to get actual statistics but I feel huge improvement. Does anyone else feel the same?

Not for me this far. Taking far longer to charge and is draining much quicker.

For those 3rd party apps that still use the "gloss" layer, does iOS 7 remove the gloss by force or is it still there?

I don't think it's enabled yet, I can't find any way to do it.
