http://www.imore.com/hey-you-one-running-ios-7-beta-when-you-really-shouldnt-be-stay-classy

I meant to publish this on Monday but I messed up and forgot to. Sorry about that. But it's the same every year. The iOS 7 beta is intended for developers to test for bugs and software compatibility. It's not intended to be an early release preview, or the daily driver for anyone's main phone. This year more than ever, iOS 7 is really beta. It's not done. It's not cooked. It's cool as hell but there's a reason there's a lineup at the Apple Store outside Moscone for iPod touches. Not even developers want to risk their main phone. (I don't have it on my main phone either.) So here's the deal...

Stay away. And if you're not going to stay away, be classy about it. Respect the NDA (non-disclosure agreement) you become part of when you install the software. Send bugs to Apple, not to the front page, and absolutely don't post negative reviews for apps that don't work or look well under iOS 7. Developers will update what they can when they can, and find workarounds if and when possible, but they're not allowed uploading iOS 7 binaries yet, and won't be until just before launch. Send them bugs privately to help them out, don't screw up their ratings. They're not doing anything wrong.

Again, we -- and other people -- write this every year because some people tend to forget it every year.

Play with the beta if you have to, but stay classy about it.

I'm surprised Rene had time to write that. He's usually busy taking pictures of himself.

I installed iOS 7 beta to take classy pictures of myself, now that Apple included photo filters.

Does that count as classy? I hate the word classy

BTW, I have it installed on my "main phone." It's working fine for me.

You just don't understand.

I found a bug in beta 1 and I simply must start a thread about it.

And absolutely don't post negative reviews for apps that don't work or look well under iOS 7.

I'm having a hard time believing that anyone would actually do this.

I'm having a hard time believing that anyone would actually do this.

It's happened a lot in the past under iOS 5 and iOS 6 betas (and I'm sure it's been happening before that as well)

I agree that it seems unbelievable that someone would leave an AppStore review complaining that an app doesn't work on beta software, but it happens a lot.

This^......

Complaining about the haves and have nots will not make the process any better. Leave it to the developers to make the proper bug reports to Apple.:D

Personally, I couldn't care less what he says. I use iOS 7 beta as a daily driver and I don't have any problems. If I did I would downgrade. Why are we still beating this dead horse? People will do what they wish.

You understand what a beta is, but many others don't and take this time to install a beta software and then flock to forums to complain about things not working properly.

Now this app got a 2 star rating because the commenter doesn't understand what a beta is, and this happens very often and it causes these apps to get overall low ratings.

"Oh no! I couldn't possibly have the riff-raff installing the same iOS I'm beta testing. Then it wouldn't be exclusive."

Yeah, whatever. I'm using it as my daily driver and it's fine, thanks.

You're never going to stop it, those who want it will get it regardless of how much developers kick up a fuss. Even if Apple managed to end udid registration, many would simple buy the developer account and maybe share the cost with friends!

So the solution is to stop allowing ratings from beta software!

Yes, yes yes. It's unreal how touchy some people get about this. As if "how dare you tell me if can install something or not". But Apple makes it clear that the beta is for developers, not the general public that just wants to check it out. I wonder how many of the latter actually read through the release notes, do proper testing and report feedback to Apple? Or how many install it find bugs & crappy battery life and then go online to whine about it sucking and being one of the the worst OS updates ever.

It is a very good post and should be stickied as long as you get rid of the red smilies in your signature. ;)

Shouldn't Rene be busy photoshopping an iPhone into a comic book character's movie poster or something?

Who has that much time on their hands to worry this much about what other people do with their time.Falls in line with the people that constantly raise the "its a Beta" and "that is against the NDA"

Who cares let people do what they want with their devices. I agree. This is almost as bad as the jailbreak debate. It's not against the law to install iOS 7 and Apple spells out the risks pretty clearly when you sign up. It's a shame that some get their panties in a bunch over this.

Agreed. It's a damn phone.

I do get where developers are coming from when people complain about apps not working on beta software and then the app gets a negative review. That is ridiculous. So I understand where some people are coming from. But honestly, there is nothing anyone can do about it. Just one of the perks of technology!

I waited until beta 3, until I installed it on my daily driver phone. Is working well, save for a few crashes here and there (I don't know how to reproduce them, so I don't know how to report them. I hope crash reports will be enough for apple)

For new Software versions, that's why I will not download it in beta until the GM comes out... It would be my luck that I install a beta on it and something catastrophic would happen to it, or it gets bricked or something...

It would be my luck that I install a beta on it and something catastrophic would happen to it, or it gets bricked or something... Actually nothing major can really happen. Just back everything up before you upgrade and keep the backup around in case you want to go back. It's not really rocket science.
