http://images.macrumors.com/article-new/2012/04/instagram-150x1501.pngAccording to TechCrunch (http://techcrunch.com/2013/06/17/source-instagram-will-get-video-on-june-20/), Facebook will unveil a new video capture addition for Instagram at a June 20th press event. Instagram's video capabilities are said to be similar to Twitter's Vine (http://appshopper.com/social-networking/vine-make-a-scene), featuring quick, short videos that are between five and 10 seconds long.On June 20, a source says Facebook will unveil that Instagram, its popular photo-sharing app, will begin to let people also take and share short videos. Call it the Vine effect.

We are still looking for more information because we understand that Facebook has not wanted the details of June 20 to leak out -- so this could be an intentional blind alley. But if the Instagram video report is true, you could say the event invite itself -- sent by snail mail, coffee cup stain charmingly in one corner -- is a red herring of its own.Introduced in late January, Vine allows its users to upload short six second videos that can be shared on Twitter, Facebook, and the web. Vine has enjoyed enormous success since its debut, even surpassing Instagram sharing on Twitter.

TechCrunch originally suggested (http://techcrunch.com/2013/06/14/facebook-reader/) that the press event would see Facebook releasing a news-reading app, so it is unclear if the company plans to debut two products or if one of the sources is incorrect.

There is no additional information available on Instagram video at this time, but details will surface after the press event on Thursday.

Facebook is awfully good at copying everyone else.

Oh well, it's good to have choice, I guess. Facebook is still my social network of choice, mostly because of how stupid easy it is to set up group instant messaging - it's a really handy tool for augmenting real human interactions, like Find my Friends... unlike a lot of social network websites which like to destroy real human interactions.

(To be clear, I use Facebook's group messaging to set up meetings and events and stuff with people, which then take place in reality.)

Explains why Facebook didn't want Vine to access Facebook information

Why so much video hate? I like Vine, but I wish it was integrated into the Twitter app or could replace the Twitter app completely. Less is more.

People still use instagram?

Just because one person (you) don't use it anymore, that doesn't mean 100,000,000 people aren't using it, many apps would like to have 100 million active users.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the video sharing option,I don't like Instagram since Facebook bought it for 1 billion dollars, but it is a popular app.

no thank you!!!

OMG please don't!!

you aren't gonna be forced to use the feature.. relax

i, for one, welcome this. i like vine and all, but not everyone has it. i already have an instagram account with all of my friends on it.

if this happens, i'll be deleting my vine.

also, please don't allow autoplaying of videos when scrolling down the timeline. that is extremely annoying.

so you blame facebook for copying but forget to mention that twitter copied another app to make vine (can't remember what it's called).

I like the idea of this. I have 4k instagram followers and i don't want to try and build up my vine account to that many followers.

I never used it, so :p

But I've seen less and less of Instagrams crappy filters muddying up people's pictures over the last few years and figured the fad was winding down.

I could see them making their's 7 seconds, compared to Vine's 6 seconds just to say "we're better".
