View Full Version : Your Dream Car...

Hey everyone, I've noticed that there haven't been a lot of threads about cars, so I figured I'd see everyone's tastes in asking what their dream car would be. Can be any car, old or new... and feel free to tell why.

Mine would be a New Porsche 911 Turbo: To me it's the ultimate car. Fast beyond all means, beautiful, all wheel drive, turbo, luxury, and it's a Porsche, who makes some of the finest sports cars in the world

A new Volvo. Porsches are cool, but I am not into dying. :-)

Unless of course I'm allowed to sell the car.

Then I get an F1, sell it, keep my 95' volvo, and hire a financial planner.

A car that runs off a energy source I don't have to pay for, that never
breaks, that has a computer built in, and that does everything I
need it to do. If it could fly that would be nice too... ;)

Now you're really dreamin! Yeah, well here's a site you should check out, you might find it interesting, fuel cell vehicles are the future, and they share some of the traits you were lookin for...
Fuel Cell Vehicles (http://www.fuelcells.org/fct/index.htm)

Yeah, I've always been a Volvo fan, that's where I got to be a fan of turbos. I had an 86 740 turbo, that was a nice car.

And contrary to popular belief, Porsche builds pretty safe cars. The Porsche 944 from the 80's was actually the first production car to feature air bags.

aston amrtin DB7 Vanquish. Just beautiful.

Probably though I'd actually choose a BMW Z8. Classic style, awesome engineering.

Or a little cheaper, an M5 with sequential gearbox.

Since those are out of reach except for the most fanciful of dreams, there are other cars that are much more attainable that I would truly love to have.

Like a 1970's porshe 911.

A late 60's Alfa Romeo Spyder roundtail.

A BMW Z4, or the older Z3 Coupe.

A subaru WRX sti (or even the current wrx version available here in the US, total sleeper car)

I actually saw a Delorean in DC a couple months ago - had to do a double take. Very cool car, but I can't imagine it would be cheap to maintain.

As for real cars I'd be happy with a new convertable Turbo Bug - and if I won the lottery - maybe a Audi TT, nothing too over the top.

You're righ. It would HAVE to be the one from Back to the Future PART 2 (the one that can fly, and is powered by garbage). Otherwise, you'd have to have a handy stash of plutonium somewhere.;)

Actually, one very cool car is the Lexus hard-top convertible (I don't know the model or name). I saw it in a presentation at Lincoln Center where this really hot babe was answering everybody's questions about the car and demonstrating how the top would collapse into the trunk. Very cool indeed:cool:

I believe that DMC was a British company. The British government put a lot of money into it, and they were built in Ireland.

I'd really like a Mini Cooper S, red with white top and a Union Jack. Unfortunetly, that means i can't get a sunroof. A 1955 Mercedes 300SL gullwing would be nice. But, I'm going to have to say a Volkswagen Phateon, or, in typical American wasteful fashion, a Volkswagen Touareg/Porsche Cyanne or a MB G500 (Galendewagen?)

To make up for it, I wish VW would make the 1L that jelloshotsrule posted, That things really cool!

I'll second the car that doesn't require gas! I know fuel cell technology is being used in a few cars, but I think that the power of the oil companies, combined with the power of our president and vice president (and all of their oil buddies) are keeping it down. I'd also like the car to drive itself, so I can be the observing passenger! (This has also been developed, too.) The technology is there, but our big, wasteful, money grubbing government feels that it is too disruptive to our economy (and, without oil...what countries would we have to fight?)

In the Need for Speed game series (which we don't have on the mac :() my favorite car is the Lotus GT1, which I think is the same as this Exige. It isn't as fast as the McLaren F1, but it holds the road better than any other car in the game. There was an Esprit on ebay a couple of years ago, I came really close to bidding on it...

I'm suprised that no one has listed any American cars. So...I will list my ultimate American cars.

1.) A big Lincoln from the 70's
2.) An AMC pacer
3.) A 2003 Caddilac Deville STS (or mabye a seville)
4.) A late fifties Chrysler convertible
5.) 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

That being said, I would really, really like to have anything that VW, audi, or porsche makes. Realistically, a VW Golf of GTI.

Ok... I will resist the urge to roast you, but I hate statments like that. How would you like it if I made arbitrary blanket statements?

The Dutch (as a nation) are ALL bad spellers.

NOBODY with long hair can swim.

Velvet pants are ALWAYS a good idea.

People from outside the US are ALL ugly, and stupid, becasue if they were smart, they would live in the US.

Do you see how dumb that sounds? Not all Amrican cars are big, but whats wrong with a big car? This is a big country, with big roads. A lot of people like to take long road trips, and a big car is usually better for that. The only reason the rest of the world doesn't have (for the most part) big cars is because roads and parking spaces are generally smaller and gas is much more expensive. Have you ever driven in a Yugo or a old Mini Cooper on American freeways? You would be squashed like a bug if someone with a full size car or SUV hit you.

You say american cars are wasteful. I assume you are talking about gas. Look at the pollution in europe, with their supposedly less wasteful smaller cars, and then get back to me.

No offense intended to anyone, but I hate that stereotype.

I feel I have the right to say that. I lived in Saudi Arabia for 15 years. Since American takes all the oil (to use in the 5.7liter v8's that put out the same power as a civic 1.3) they feel they have to give the Saudis some cars. Result, a country of millions of Caprice's, these are the slowest, and most unefficient attempt at a car i have seen.

http://www.geocities.com/chevycc_1986/car.jpg
They make look like a car from the 60's, and have the nostalgia, I wonder if the Dutch could spell that, but believe me I've riden in loads of them and they don't have the performance.

In the recent years the Caprices haven't been that bad, but that's because Chevorolet just takes Holden's cars (Australian Car Maker) and sticks Chevy Badges on it.

http://www.holden.com.au//images/Caprice/Overview/img_ModelHero.jpg

It still has the 5.7 V8 but goes a lot better. I'm sure if I were on a freeway in the states I'd last a lot longer that those guys with firestones. :D

Ok, nothing is inherently wrong with a big car, I just don't like the way their main sales pitch is their size... so what?

anyway, just my opinion, I've been in Ford Expeditions they are fun until you have to pay for the petrol to go in the thing. It drinks the stuff faster than a Boy Scout Troop in the Rub-al-Khali.

My dream car- Mercedes Maybach. It's not the fastest, or the coolest looking, but it's the ultimate party car for you and a couple of friends... The sucker has back seats that recline with foot rests that come up. Truly luxurious. The sports car I would want most would have to be something like a '72 Corvette. I'm a pretty simple guy, so just give me a brand new White convertable Mustang GT for me and a brand new Honda Pilot EX for the family car. Don't give me a hard time about the gas mileage of an SUV. I'm a musician so we always have equipment to move around and I have a family. Try fitting three car seats in the back of a Civic! It's my dream, not yours.:p

I agree about the caprices, but they havent made or sold a caprice (or their roadmaster or fleetwood stablemates) since 1996 in america. The biggest car sold in america currenly is the Lincoln Town Car, I believe. It actually doesn't get that bad of gas milage. Do you think we use most of the oil in america because we have more cars? I don't know if we do, but I think that is a safe assumption, because the countries with higher populations than the US (like india and china) don't have many cars.
I do agree that they could make cars more efficent, but not at the cost of everyone driving around in econoboxes. It is simply not necessary. Why couldn't they use the same trechnology they put in those gas-electric cars and put them into big cars and suv's?

I am lookin forward to the aussie car we will be getting in america soon. The will be bringing the holden monaro (?) to america and selling it as the ponitac gto. That has the 5.7 V8, but i'll bet that it goes better than a civic!

I wanted a sports car, but needed the size of a sedan. I couldn't afford the M5, or its gas mileage, so I went with the 540i sport. Right now, I can honestly say I'm driving my dream car. Just about 290 horsepower, sport suspension and transmission, and fairly innocent looking when you accidentally blow by a police officer.

In a few years, I might consider getting a pure sports car, but for now, the ultimate driving machine.

the difference is that he never said "all" or "always" or any of those definite qualifiers. he just said american cars are too big, etc etc.

which, while it is a blanket statement, doesn't have the definitive nature of "ALL american cars..." also, it's pretty heavily true, in that most of the cars on the road (not just the ones made) are big and thus expensive.... he didn't mention gas guzzling....

and this isn't just hauling stuff around (i have no problem with actually using an SUV for what it is intended chicagomac), it's driving one person, back and forth to and from work each day. if the tanks weren't so big, most people would probably have to fill em up a few times a day just to make it there and back. ha

I have had a lot of unreachable dream cars in the past. McLaren F1s and Ferraris etc.. Currently my dream car is a little more reachable a Miata Monster. The Monster builds these Miatas in California. There are several options but the one I want has a Ford 302 in it with 400Hp. The body is resculpted to hide some enormous tires under it. I'm not sure how much tire but it's enough to get the car with the extra weight of the motor and drivetrain to pull in excess of 1.3Gs on a skid pad.

This car was raced in the Sun Classic in Nevada. There are stories of it from this guy who was in his LT1 built corvette doing around 175MPH through the desert. These two guys pulled up to him in this Miata waved and dissapeared. Now that my friends is one hell of a pocket rocket.
