No idea what ports MSN use. But if you use Little Snitch you could stop the MSN application from making connections.

Are you trying to prevent someone from connecting to you? or blocking MSN altogether?

If you look under Sharing preferences, you'll find that you can add MSN and the port number is there.

According to my Sharing preferences, the MSN ports are 6891-6900. Give those a try :)

Port 1863, from memory.
If not, type in 'netstat -n' to terminal and see what comes up under foreign. Then open up msn and do the same, see what differs in the foreign column. The last few numbers is the port number.
Can't be screwed. Type in port numbers or something to google and there is an official list. Press command F and type in 'msn' or '1863' and that should tell you.
Infact, here's the page through google http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers which is handy for ever knowing a port.
This line confirms I was right: msnp 1863/tcp MSNP
msnp 1863/udp MSNP
So if you block 1863 is tcp and udp you are right. Sorry about the mouthful. Give a man a fish... Teach a man to fish.. Something something.

If you want to block connecting from MSN altogether, why do you open the application in the first place?

Maybe he is trying to prevent other people from using msn. If that's the case I think you can just block the application using parental controls for that account.

Well, I've looked and I think MSN will use port 80 if needed, so it may get hard to block it. One approach is to create a DNS server on your network, have it host the msn.com domain, and point it to 127.0.0.1.

The app MSN uses port 1863. Unless the OP is talking about the website, this won't work. If the OP is talking about a website, the firewall should just be able to black certain domains. Why not just not go to msn.com then?

MSN Messenger connects to 1863.
To what hosts? It doesn't just connect to anything on port 1863. I bet that you'll find that each server MSN Messenger connects to ends with .msn.com. So if you host that on your own DNS server and point it to 127.0.0.1, it will fail.

Looks like I lost the bet.. :) You win bragging rights...
C:\>nslookup 207.46.0.100
Name: baym2-cs80.messenger.hotmail.com
Address: 207.46.0.100
I will now amend my suggestion to hosting hotmail.com.
EDIT: Have you changed your avatar a couple of times today or am I going crazy?

I still think it would be easier to just remove the app.

Well, the OP said he/she wanted to block at the router, so I assume he/she wants to block it no matter who is on the network, not necessarily who is on the Mac.
