Hey all,
I am looking for a hobby to take up some of my extra time. It sounds pathetic I know. I play a lot of games but I dont feel productive. I am also spending a lot of time in the MR marketplace and on ebay dreaming of buying things I just dont have the cash for. I cant work because I am not an EU citizen and I cant voulenteer because school takes up too much time. I am looking for something computer related(thinking about MUDing) if possible but any ideas are welcome.
HELP PLEASE
PS: I am spending way too much tim on MR and watchin TV(atleast 4 hours a day)

Or you could pick up the flute, it's awesome two!
Ceramics is really calming, it's great to find a local studio and take a few classes on throwing pots.
Speaking of classes, do you have a school near you? You can always take acting, computer programming, photography, music or any of the other things people do in their spare time.
How about web design? It's a useful (and addictive) skill to learn, and you could make your own site incorporating photography/skydiving/antiques or any other hobby you choose to take up. Having my domain costs me £15 ($30) a year, which isn't much to shell out for a hobby if you wanted to.

Learn how to play trumpet or air guitar.:cool:
Or you could get involved with a mod of one of your favorite games, like heatofbattle.net for Call Of Duty. That's always fun.

Do you know how to program? If not, perhaps try learning AppleScript then moving on to Xcode. I love programming for five main reasons:
1. The sheer joy of finding solutions to complex problems
2. The pleasure in making things that are useful to other people
3. The fascination of fashioning complex puzzle-like objects of interlocking moving parts and watching them work their subtle, complex dances
4. The joy of always learning
5. The delight of working in such a tractable medium
(paraphrased from F. P. Brooks "The Mythical Man-Month")
Many programmers are MUD people too - the skillsets and ways of thinking are very similar.
If you already know a little about programming, get involved with one of the many Open Source projects for the Mac community. Some of the communities you might want to research a bit more:
* The Apache Foundation
* Mozilla
* OpenDarwin
* One of the Mac Media Center projects (CenterStage, iTheater, Showtime)
Hope that helps,

I suppose masturbation is an option - if you're concerned about reducing your risk of prostate cancer, of course.
You could also sculpt - like ceramics, in a sense.
Build robots if that appeals to your inner geek.
Learn yoga.
Learn the harmonica (very cheap price of admission to that hobby).
Programming is cool (I do it for a living), but I personally don't think of it as a hobby... although, I suppose, coupled with robots, it could be. Otherwise, to me, it's just work....

HAHAHAHA, maybe I should ask the mods to ban me from the marketplace for a while!
JSW-Bulding robots sounds cool where do I start lol. I might look into model making, sounds interesting.

I enjoy riding, we tend to bring a digi-camera and/or small video camera with us - I can then enjoy learning more movie and photoshop tricks.... which makes me want to go out and get more footage, learn more movie and photoshop tricks. Spain has some cool trails to ride too - though you may need to travel to them. (luckily I live in Mountain Bike heaven). :cool:

You say something computer related, I say get out of the house! Hiking, biking, nature...I'm a bird watcher and started young.
Read books.
Am I to understand you're in school in Spain, but not a EU citizen? I'd explore Europe as much as I could. That's where the real history is!

/all of these I wish to learn
//learn how to knit!

Parallax (http://www.parallax.com) or Solarbotics (http://www.solarbotics.com/) are two places to start, but I'm not sure of what's available to you over there.
If I had the time, I'd get into it. 10 years from now, robots will be everywhere.

Start bouldering! :)
You don't need anything but a pair of shoes (crash pad/chalk bag optional), and you can get going quickly.
Really quite safe...and it's easy to find cool boulders.

look at all those suggestions
and many of them are not computer related...go for something that will give you balance in life...doing too much of one thing, whether it's indoors or outdoors, is not a good thing

rollerblading is great - and its a good form of exercise, but it is dependent on the weather. do you workout at all? going to a gym might be something you'd like and you'd feel better for it as well.

I'd take up hiking and camping if it's possible... it's fun, relaxing, and a great way to exercise. It's relatively inexpensive too.

Since you don't seem to know what you like to do, and easily controlled by those around you.
Find a dominatrix to put you life in order. ;) :cool:
You might find life as a footstool or floormat much more productive.
Of course just opening the door and interacting with people may be a little hard. :p

rollerblading is cheaper - camping you need all sorts of things, depending on where you go. and a good tent/backpack/sleeping bag will cost you much more than blades, pads and a helmet.

volunteer somewhere.
Lots of people need help, like soup kitchens, meals of wheels, habitat for humanity, big brother/sister......
Do something for someone else, and you will get alot! Time best spent.
I always wanted to learn piano and stained glass.

Skydiving sounds like something I should try. I've never attempted a dive (http://www.wqad.com/Global/story.asp?S=2019343) before. It should be pretty safe (http://www.skyxtreme.com/archive/sept_dec2001/safety.html) and exhilarating!

I knew Roger Nelson. He had a skydive center in Sandwich, Illinois.:(
There's risk in all we do including driving, crossing the street and falling in love.

get a can of spray paint and attack a wall. maybe one in your place, maybe one on the street. It's a good hobby. :D

You know in England, "bird watching" could mean one of two things :p

Get hold of your *what* now? :eek: :confused:
I say go for the skating option... although Autumn's not a great time for it... changing weather and too many damn leaves in the way :(
This is my usual (only) form of exercise, and now i can't do it, so need to find an alternative... i just know someone's gonna come up with a smutty retort :rolleyes:

Seeing that you are looking for a "computer related hobby", perhaps you should give 3D modeling and computer animation a try. Its very creative, time consuming, impressive to your friends and family and you will have somthing to show for it when you are done. Since you like games you could incorperate your gaming into it and could even get a job doing it after a year or so with practice.

Not necessarily. In both activities, things can B sharp. ::ducking::
As far as hobbies go, I'd recommend saltwater aquariums, aside from the fact that the hobby is hardly inexpensive and is highly addictive.
