granted, it's old news, but they finally explained in plain english what the update was for.

What's interesting about this is how mainstream QuickTime is becoming. I'm also impressed by Apple's pace of fixing these problems. The flaws weren't announced until after the update was available, correct?

Correct, I think the update was available at least three-four weeks ago (October 12th I believe). So the bug has long been fixed, so long as you actually updated the software.
