Apple's iMessage app appears to be down for some users, with a number of people noting on Twitter that the service is experiencing issues. Sending a message results in an error, with future messages sent as standard text messages.

According to Apple's system status page (http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/), the service experienced outages that affected 30% of iMessage users from 3:35 to 4:11 EST, but the app still does not appear to be functioning as normal. iMessage has suffered from several outages in the past, with the most recent major outage taking place (http://www.macrumors.com/2013/04/09/imessage-and-facetime-down-for-some-no-estimate-on-service-restoration-yet/) in April.

All you need to do is go to settings - general (scroll all the way down) till you reach reset- then hit the middle lonely option named "Reset Network Settings"

your phone will reset itself and reboot, then proceed to go on to your old conversations, close them out and reopen them. Problem should be fixed.

Went down for me. Reentered my password for messages under settings>general>messages and it has been working ever sense. Not sure why it stopped. But rebooting and logging in or signing out and signing back in fixes it.

When will Apple get this really right. Yes, iMessage (and other iCloud services) work fine most of the time, but with all the resources and talent of Apple, they just don't seem capable of creating a 99,99% uptime online services.

But I'm optimistic things will improve. I'm sure Apple is absolutely not happy about these outages.

are you sure this isn't some issue with your phone or connectivty?

Did Apple really say the system was down from 3:35 to 4:11 EST when we are currently in Daylight Saving Time rather than Standard Time in the U.S.? I would have expected them to say it was down from 3:35 to 4:11 EDT.

I got my iMessage working on iOS 7 beta 3 by clicking on the far left of the iMessage slide bar under settings>messages. then moving it to the right. Had to try this multiple times but it worked for me. Good luck to those who are trying and I hope this helps.
