OK, coming from a state with a joke of a movie actor as Governor, this makes a whole lot of sense. The newly elected Governor of New Jersey, Senator Jon Corzine, gets to name his replacement in the US Senate. As a result every hack in Democratic politics is lining up to get his nod, but what is needed is someone from the outside. Am I crazy for thinking the politically savvy blogger, Attytood (http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/002473.html) is on to something - SENATOR SPRINGSTEEN?

With elections getting so expensive, it does seem like Congress and the Governorships will only be a place for very wealthy individuals with some name recognition. That pretty much begs celebrities.

Nah, I don't think Bruce should be appointed. He was born to run.

You want a celebrity to fill Corzine's seat?

Well neither can Bruce, either -- and I've never held it against him!

whoa, wait a minute ... The Boss can't sing? Next you'll be telling me Dylan (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=476720&s=143441&i=477620) couldn't either! Or Tom Waits (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=247230&s=143441&i=247224)? How can you not appreciate the Boss' dulcet tones? He gave hope to every 70's and 80's shower-singing Dylan wannabe in the nation. Pardon me while I yell out "BORN IN THE USA" at the top of my lungs. Can't sing indeed!!! ;)

Not to worry, I'm a huge Bruce fan -- but vocally, he's got a range of about half an octave. Now it might be a great half octave...

Am reading Twain's A Connecticut Yankee right now and can only think of "Sir Boss (http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/images/dbboss.jpg)."
He'd clean up the senate ...

Cultural references that go back beyond the 1960s? Hey, dude, this maybe too much a shock for our systems. I have to spell out every CCR (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=2084856&s=143441&i=2084776) reference for the younger crowd and now you're bringing in Twain?
:p
Great reference, btw.:D
PS - is the screen name a tribute to "The Big Lebowski" (http://imdb.com/title/tt0118715/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9YmlnIGxlYm93c2tpfGZ0PTF8bXg9MjB8bG09NTAwfGNvPTF8aHRtbD0x fG5tPTE_;fc=1;ft=20;fm=1) or are you just a socal boy at heart? ;)

The Boss for Senate?
Don't know, I think Arnie might have ruined it for the rest of them. Not that he could do any worse than the current senators. That would be pretty much impossible at this point.
And now that I've said that, I'm sure they'll do something new that's horrible to prove me wrong.

Pennsylvania Avenue Freezeout?
GOP Senators Block Springsteen Resolution
Bruce Springsteen famously was "born in the USA," but the veteran rocker from New Jersey is getting scorned in the U.S. Senate.
An effort by New Jersey's two senators, both Democrats, to honor Springsteen was shot down by Republicans who are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry.
The resolution, introduced by Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg and Jon Corzine, honored Springsteen's long career and his iconic 1975 album, "Born to Run." GOP leaders refused to bring the measure up for consideration.
