Interface Robustness

On the airport menu there is an option "use interface robustness".
What does this mean?

its actually interference robustness not interface and it helps your airport signal by making it stronger to avoid being cut off from say a cordless phone or microwave

It gives you a more durable connection to an AirPort base station at the expense of some range and therefore speed. AFAIK, it only works with Apple base stations. :)

Well, it gives you a more reliable connection, in the presence of very specific kinds of interference. More specifically, against the intermittent and very predictable pulses of radiation given off by microwave ovens on the 2.4 Ghz band.

Microwaves cause cancer in high doses. There may be a small chance wi-fi signals can cause cancer too, of which we have no long term study to prove that it doesn't.
