Installed my Crucial RAM and it's 1969

I successfully installed my crucial ram, however, when I started the computer, the date was set to December 1969? is that normal? anybody know?
 
I don't know but that's pretty cool!

Is that when George Orwell published 1984? If it is, then we'll know!

That is not normal.
 
It just sounds like the PMU or PRAM got reset. I wouldn't worry about the RAM being bad (unless a whole bunch of other stuff is wrong too). Just reset the time.

If memory serves, it was 1948--that's where the 84 came from. 1969 is, of course, "zero" in Unix years, and the default if the computer "forgets" what time it is.

And this isn't necessarily normal, but since you have a PowerBook (I guess you didn't have a problem installing it yourself), I believe it's totally normal if you took the battery out like you're supposed to. As said, so long as nothing else is acting up, just reset it and forget about it.

🙂 that's right, I have a Powerbook and I was worried about installing it myself, turns out it is much easier than all PCs I have installed ram into, my powerbook seems to be working fine, here's the weird thing, my friend with his powerbook had the same thing happen to him. And everyone here seems surprised. but thanks

Why do you say this? I've installed RAM on PowerBooks, iBook, PCs, PC Labtops, and more. I really can say any one is easier than another (except for one specific PC Labtop that was horrible, but that is not the norm).
 
i thought this was absolutely normal, I have owned two ibooks and maxed the ram on both. Each time the date was reset, I assumed because I removed the battery.

It is normal because the iBook and Powerbooks have no pram battery's. They use the regular battery as a pram battery. I learned this the hard way when my old Tibook's (rev A) battery died and I had to get a new one and stupidly threw away the dead one.
