I'm getting a Blu-ray player (that of course supports 1080p HD) and I wanted to know if the basic 1.8m Apple HDMI cord for $19 would be okay to use to connect the Blu-ray player to the TV for the maximum 1080p playback quality.

Try it and see. Should be fine unless you're a cable snob.

Any HDMI cable is fine. Can be obtained really cheap at Monoprice.com

Never tried Monoprice, but have seen plenty of recommendation for them. Where do they ship from?

I purchased a cheap HDMI cable from Amazon, works great!

HDMI is a digital signal - it will work or it won't. If the signal gets from one end of the cable to the other, your picture and sound quality will be the same, whether it's a $2.50 Monoprice cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cs_id=1024008&p_id=3871) or a $1095 Audioquest cable (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/AudioQuest---Diamond-3.3'-High-Speed-HDMI-Cable---Dark-Gray/Black/2383276.p?id=1218324437192&skuId=2383276).

Oh come now, the gold-platinum-adamantium plated cables are so much better. ;)

But seriously - those reviews for the audioquest cable are classic.

The only problem I have with such obvious spoof reviews is that they're almost always five-star, which means products get high ratings as a joke - which might very well encourage someone with bad sarcasm-detection-skills into buying the items!

P.S. Per your signature, you're not Linux Torvalds (http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2012/03/mr-linux/) are you? :D

Nah, I'm far too much of a fan of the closed source model to be Mr Linux.

...Unless there's some crazy split-personality bipolar stuff going on I don't know about
