Apple has sent an email to registered developers informing them that its Developer Center and additional developer program services will be offline for "brief scheduled maintenance" on Saturday, August 17th at 6PM PST.

Last month, Apple's Developer Center experienced over three weeks (http://www.macrumors.com/2013/08/10/all-apple-developer-services-back-online-after-hack-apple-offers-free-month-extension/) of at least partial downtime that started on July 18 (http://www.macrumors.com/2013/07/19/apples-developer-center-experiences-daylong-outage/). Independent security researcher Ibrahim Balic speculated (http://www.macrumors.com/2013/07/22/researcher-takes-credit-for-security-breach-of-apples-developer-center/) that he was responsible for the breach that caused the outage of Apple's Developer Center, and claimed to have accessed details on over 100,000 users. As part of its efforts to bring the developer site back online, Apple has also rolled out a status page (https://developer.apple.com/support/system-status/) to keep developers updated on the availability of its services.

Are people going to complain and demand an extra month of membership?

That's strange. I got an email for this outage but not the "extended" outage.

And this is on MacRumors why?

The only people who should care about this are developers, and as developers they have already received this email...

so.. again, why? This is not a 'rumor'....

MacRumors is for many THE source of all Apple-related news and rumors.

It would be strange if MacRumors would not post it.

Sure, if this was actually news worthy. This type of shutdown is common for the dev site and is announced via such emails.

MR is looking desperate associating this with the recent multi-week shutdown.

Maybe Apple will be back on schedule for iOS 7 beta 7 and Mavericks DP 6 this monday.;)

By Monday, it'll only have been 4 days since iOS7 beta 6; that would be really fast. Mavericks DP 5 was Aug 7, so that is kind-of expected. They're obviously in a bigger hurry with iOS7, cause it's just over three weeks till Sep 10.

Reassuring to see them working around the clock, on the new iOS.

Yep, but "beta 6" was an overstatement for "hotfix" in this case.
