I just had my 40GB iPod sent away for a new battery under my Best Buy repair plan, but I took the opportunity as an excuse to buy a new 60GB video iPod. If at all possible, I'd like to recoup some of the money, but I have no idea what it would be worth, especially since it would now have a new battery and a transferable Best Buy warranty. No accessories to speak of, just the 40GB iPod. If I can't sell it for a reasonable sum, I'll give it to my wife.

Any ideas? I'm not 100% sure I'm going to sell it at this point. Thanks!

If I were to sell this, I would be open to trades, I guess. What do you have in mind? I'll remind you, though, that it's strictly a feeler at this point. I won't even have the iPod back for another few weeks.

I appreciate the thought, but I use my Xbox too much as it is! :D I don't know what kind of parts I'd need, either. For my info, what do you think the iPod is worth?

I traded my Xbox for a PS2 :D I would say (if this Pod is in great condition) is worth about $220 to $260.

Those prices seem pretty steep. I just bought a refurbished 40gig Photo from apple, with all the accesories ( dock, case, A/V cord, wall charger, both USB and Firewire cords) for $280. I would say that just the iPod wouldn't get more then $175 at the very most.

a 40 gig 3G iPod in Apples refurb store is $269.99. So 220 to 260 is VERY reasonable.

But he is just selling the iPod, that would mean the person at the very least would have to buy some connecting cord to the computer. And I think there is greater value given to a product sold through apple themselves, which still have the one year warrenty.

I could include a firewire cable, since the new one is USB 2.0. Plus, I do have the Best Buy warranty thru 2007. This iPod has got to be getting phased out soon, so the next repair = brand new iPod, I'd guess. They almost did it with this one.

So, 40GB 3G iPod with Firewire cable and BB warranty. $250? I dunno. If necessary, I could include a dock, remote and earphones. Oh, and a Navipro, since my current one isn't compatible with the new iPod. I've also still got the original packaging. This is getting complicated :o .

New situation. 40GB 3G iPod with new battery, BB service plan good thru 2007, dock, wired remote, carrying case, earphones (unused ones from new iPod), original iPod packaging and Navipro kit. What say ye now, good men of MacRumors?

I'm sorry for not responding, doucy2. I took a look through your stuff and can't think that I'd need any of it. I was almost thinking of buying your dock a day or so ago, but I don't think I'll need it after all. Thanks, though!
