I got a refurbished one from a local ipod reseller, it's a refurbished one. But I see no sign on the package or in the package saying it is a reconditioned model. Can anyone tell me how to distinguish them?

urm, you may not be able to but most reconditioned ones are the ipods that have been bought and then returned as unwanted presents and so basically in perfect condition. i also think they take bits from ones that dont work (the working bits obviously) and then stick them all together as a working one!

I'm convinced that at least some "refurbished" products from Apple are actually new overstocks. When they come in plain-wrap packaging, you know they've been through the factory again for some reason -- but when they come in the complete, shrink-wrapped retail packaging, you have to wonder whether they've ever been in a retail customer's hands before.

I see no problems with purchasing refurbished... I'm even surprised that nobody posted a smarty pants remark like, "The difference is $xx." 😛
Honestly though, if the product has no problems; great, you've saved yourself some money! If it begins to exhibit problems; no problem, you still have the one year warranty as if it was brand new.
