I have recently recieved a first generation Apple TV from my Uncle. I was very disapointed when I found out that it only has a 40 gigabyte hard drive.

I'd like to upgrade the hard drive, but I don't want to have to spend $100 or more on a new hard drive. I'd like to use my MacBook Pro's old/original hard drive in it ( I upgraded it about a year ago), which is a 500 gigabyte 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus hard drive.

But, my MacBook Pro's old hard drive is a SATA hard drive rather than a PATA hard drive. I would rather just spend about $20 or so on an adapter rather than a new hard drive.

Will a SATA to PATA adapter fit in my in my first generation Apple TV? Also, if it will fit, will it cause any issues as regards heat?

There are a few adapters that fit and work in an Apple TV 1. Use the forum's search function to locate the threads detailing their installations.
