Okay, Apple is going to use TPM chips to secure its OS X software so it cannot be run on competing vendors' computers (or DIY boxes).

What I don't understand is, couldn't you just buy a mobo with the correct TPM chip, and then run OS X on a DIY box? They already sell the same MOBOs from the development kits, the 915g chipset intel ones, on the internet for 100$.

Am I wrong or couldn't you just obtain the correct parts independantly and build it yourself.

I've already found vendors who sell procs and mobos for PPC boxes.

There has to be something I'm missing.

What if Apple solders the chip onto the motherboard? What if there isn't a motherboard that has the chip built-in?

What if the thing you're missing is the answer? :D

Some hacker will just hack the kernel to not use the TPM chip. But apple ought to do mor ethan just use an off the shelf TPM chip because you could get those on other boards.
