Help With Saving To Second Internal Hard Drive

Heres my problem: I have a dual 2.5 G5 w/ 2 internal HDs, 1 as the primary w/ 10.4 on it. The second one is blank but disk utility says it's Mac OS X formatted. However, when trying to set it as a scratch disk for FCP, it give an error message. Trying to save any files to it gives an error as well. Do I need to install X onto it, or something else?

What exactly is the error message? Maybe try formatting it again through Disk Utility. :)

It simply is greyed out in the save fields, and FCP says that its either write protected or unwriteable media. I'll try to format it now.
